| Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – A Hymn to the Morning Star Lyrics | 18 years ago |
junkyardbomber -i forgot to mention- you're right about the whole egyptian thing (regarding my point about worshiping the Sun) in the video you even see nils as a sphinx... come on, this song really is easy to understand. |
| Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – A Hymn to the Morning Star Lyrics | 18 years ago |
how come it is so hard for people to interpret this song? it's about the sun, why? -recurrent references to the Sun -recurrent references to the Sun as being a god -'the greatest lie ever told' and all that comes before it refers to how Christianity has been making people forget about our real god, the first god that was ever worshiped by all of our ancestors; the Sun -throne=the earth -milk, blood, etc=energy, light, etc -the adversary part is just a connection to the next song on the album; 'the donkey-headed adversary' |

| Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – Helpless Corpses Enactment Lyrics | 18 years ago |
again if you really want to understand anything about sgm's lyrics, you have to ask the bandmembers. i asked carla and matthias, they told me to ask nils because he's the one that composed it. nils told me he just really likes joyce, and that when he came across this particular passage he thought -i quote- "these lyrics are perfect for a metal song" |
| Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – 1997 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i asked nils what it meant and he told me that he composed it for one of his brother's friends, a guy who died of a heroin overdose half a year after he had helped nils take his brother to a mental institution -by getting him drunk and putting him in the car- | |

| The Mars Volta – This Apparatus Must Be Unearthed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i agree with you, although i think that it is very relevant to mention the fact that the lyrics refer to a third party; not julio, not a specific character, but 'someone to mend all the blame' which makes me think; he is just looking for a way to get rid of everything, he doesn't want to be the one who has to deal with vengeance or hate, he's been waiting/looking for someone else to do that. this does not contradict any of your (Darkhero744) statements in any way, it just adds the suggestion that julio is, as of this song, being 'unearthed' already, as he has apparently found a solution to his vengeance-related issue. | |
| Queens of the Stone Age – The Sky Is Fallin' Lyrics | 18 years ago |
in a nutshell; its about how being negative and emo is not really worth it, All in a moment I notice that every dog has his day I paid attention, it cost me so much to hate For so long I saw only wrong But now to remind it's a waste of time thus; hating on shit is a waste of time. Close your eyes and see the skies are falling as in; close your eyes and realise everythings ending and we're running out of time. with the skies falling as a metaphor for dusk, so the end of the day.. I wanted something, nothing, blank, I don't know It's hard deflecting Stones are easy to throw All in a moment I noticed Hours, days, left behind On wasted, useless, selfish, none of a kind the philosophy of life,. But now to remind, not to go back to the low That has drained my life so long not to go back to being a negative idiot, cause its a waste of time. |

| The Mars Volta – Cut That City Lyrics | 18 years ago |
TRAMONTANE TORCHING THE TRAMONTANE i think that line pretty much says it all i agree with quite a few things people have posted. it's basically all about colonisation, invasion and culture fusion. |
| The Mars Volta – This Apparatus Must Be Unearthed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i sort of skim read all the comments, and maybe i missed it, but i don't think anybody picked up on the fact that 'this apparatus must be earthed' is the warning that appears on amps... so, by changing the earthed to unearthed i believe it can be evidently deduced that it's talking about julio; that he must be freed, unearthed, not put to rest but liberated from the world (the earth) that is tormenting him. moreover; as cerpin taxt evolves; wings; unearth;; to detach from earth? heaven maybe? what i'm certain of is that it's julio that must be unearthed. |

| The Mars Volta – Vicarious Atonement Lyrics | 18 years ago |
pink floyd's influence on tmv is indisputable and evident in a lot of their work. but in this song, mannn, the intro is almost an ode to them. anyway, i just wanted to comment on that. great song. oh and also, has anyone else noticed the fact that pink floyd commemorated and immortalised syd barret, in the same way (or very similarly) that tmv do with julio? thought that was pretty interesting... cheers- |

| The Mars Volta – L'Via L'Viaquez Lyrics | 18 years ago |
you know, i hate it how most monolingual people (especially native english speakers) have so little knowledge about the spanish language. not because i think it's a great language and it should be appreciated and praised, but because native english speakers find it amusing/odd when a non native speaker makes a mistake, or when (oh, god forbid) they don't speak english at all. spanish is the second most common language in the world, come on, it's not like trying to translate hieroglyphs... i'm a native spanish speaker (originally from argentina) and i find it sad and pathetic to see how some people posted translations when they had no fucking idea what they were on about. anyway, to get to the point, even tmv make mistakes in their lyrics which just depresses me even more, moreover; the lyrics posted up there are wrong too... fuck man, take the time to read up before blurting out whatever crap you think things might mean. aaaaaaagrh. same goes for the spanish speakers, i haven't seen one decent translation, don't take things so literally, look at the fucking context. i'm too pissed right now to actually translate it properly and post it, i'll do it some other time. oh and i agree with laineislaine on the surname thing. ps: it pisses me off because, just imagine how hilarious everyone would find it if a spanish speaking band used english lyrics... and made spelling/grammatical mistakes. seriously. and i love tmv, i love them, but ignorance just gets to me. |
