Ok, I've read most of the controversy in the comments, and I'm ready to offer my opinion. First off, this was the first APC song I ever heard. It was what introduced me to the band. And I like this cover just fine. I also have the original, but this version suits my musical tastes better. Second, the whole 'lack of optimism' thing. Now this is just my opinion, if you don't agree, please don't insult me. Just move on with life. I just noticed, when listening to this song, that the piano part is a lot lighter at the end than it is at the beginning. Is that hope? Maybe. I pass no definitive judgement. Is it just me, or is it weird that people have to be afraid to express their opinions on a damn message board? It's all about attacks and counter-attacks, forget comparing perspectives and all that. It seems a bit perverted from the original intent of the site. |

While I agree that this is probably about a single relationship, like everyone has said, for me it reminds me of most of my high school friends. I mean like some of my best friends at the time. But now I just don't give a crap about them, even though I feel kinda like I should. ... Ok, I'm going to make an arbitrary statement here. I do not contest any of the previous entries, this is just a random thought that occurred to me. So random it made me giggle a bit... Charlie Manson! Pre-Manson Family Murders, of course. I'm doing a paper on the Manson Family, so it's on the brain. Anyway, if we're refencing Flea's tattoo, bear in mind that Manson's heyday was during the Summer of Love in '67. Bear in mind, everything I say is bullshit, I'm purposely reading way too much into this. So... The "Little woman" is from Manson's little harem he kept in tow. "And tell my story, And Charlie's makin´ me, And Charlie's makin´ me smile" is from his strange power of persuasion, where he could get any info out of anyone, and everyone was strangely drawn to him. "Big daddy.....will advise" he liked to act as a sort of fucked up father figure to the girls he had with him. "Be free.......belong, Intimate sight has come in to light" They were hippies, after all. So there's my bullshit rant, connecting this awesome song to Charlie Manson. Please don't take me too seriously, like... at all. |

I haven't listened to this song for quite a while... until today. Suddenly I realize that I can relate. "What you were changing me into Just give me myself back" I had a relationship, that recently ended... but anyway, it seemed like he was always trying to change me into something I'm not.
