hey Wrath...there's no such thing as a wrong interpretation! :D this is my favorite off the new album. Honestly I think he's talking about himself...whether he will admit it or not. Creating another reality to escape this one...but it doesn't seem to help. It's like, life is the girl ripping the wings from the butterfly it's broken but its still trying to survive somehow but its' losing faith. a metaphor for himself...and people. i think its about how overwhelming death and tragedy is. The whole song sounds like a dream, like maybe someone died and the speaker can't believe they're really gone. It's like going into shock when someone you love passes away-wanting them to wake up, and knowing they wont, and the hopelessness that accompanies those thoughts. I LOVE this song. Dir en grey gets better and better. I think Kyo should chill a little with the screaming though, the songs would be just as beautiful without it, and its starting to strain his voice. |

i agree w/ your interpretation enerchay...except i think that maybe his love interest knows about his sadistic past. the line "Sadistic sadistic severer the masochist" implies that the love interest enjoys it. I think maybe they are both trying to kick the sadistic habit, because maybe a few times before they went too far, as implied with the end of the second verse, and the use of blood as a marinee. The repetition of "Filth hi" seems to be a mantra in his head. Like maybe they're trying to outrun this bad habit, but he just can't forget it-it's an unhealthy addiction. I think they try to be normal, maybe his love interest wants that "let's go see a movie, holding hands like i promised you" but all the while he's thinkin of the freaky things he wants to do...love interest thinks if they say goodbye before it gets late, all will be well, but apparently he has other plans...i think eventually he gives in, although I don't know if he finds someone else to torture, or if it's his lover... Other than that, i agree completely with your interpretation. |

I feel like the root of this song lies in regretting something. Wanting to turn back time and have a do 0ver, but knowing life isn't like that. So...that makes it not so hard to relate to because we all have had bad things happen to us, or had bad experiences that we wish we could just do-over... kind of makes the memories hard to live with because you start beating yourself up about your memories...and it doesn't really matter what they are, whether its a lost child or a boyfriend/girlfriend/ bestfried you loved who betrayed you...all those experiences hurt, and there's no meter on pain. |

I love this song...it's bittersweet, about people drifting apart. Sometimes, even if you still love a person, you have to let them go...you know life will go on, but you still love them and you'll miss them. The chords of the guitar, and the minor key add a melencholic, depressing air to the music, but his voice is whistful, sort of hopeful and sweet. It really does make me think of the ocean, the tides flowing in and out...Beautiful. |

"I'll keep these memories with me forever"- It's painful but he doesn't want to forget it... And the way he describes the town, the poetic scene he paints with his words...it's very loving, perhaps it was the town where they met, which is why he's leaving. Man...that's why I left town... "No need to fear the distance here"... I love how he says he'll leave his secret letters just in case he comes back. It's kind of like saying he's keeping a door open in his heart for his love. i think this song is about watching yourself self destruct, and self mutilating to bleed out the pain...aka the black. "I am exploring the inside, i find it desolate" ...its like one day you wake up, and you don't know yourself, and what you know is death...feeling dead inside "IF you listen..you can hear when the heart stops"...he's talking to the ppl around him, or maybe someone who's trying to reach him. He feels dead inside. "I disassociate..." something traumatic happened that he won't name, so he's living inside his head while shit falls down around him... And he can't be brought back to life. Self mutilators dissociate in the midst of their behavior. Towards the end when he keeps repeating the heart will stop, is symbolic of the heart beating... and the abrupt stop is when it...well, stops. As for the crumbling refrences of grinding it to dust-he's grinding his heart up so he can't bleed black anymore, or be hurt by whatever the traumatic experience was. "I hope to destroy the outside"-another reference to self destructive behavior. |

i really dont think kyo would talk about a friggin fish. honestly kids...honestly. I think his premonition is about the relationship that he feels won't come to pass. He's doubting himself-like most of us do when we have feelings for someone. Minus frozen love- that girl is COLD. It's a cute idean, but just because a fish is in the video...doesn't mean it's about the fish. Rather, I think it's about being in love but being kind of afraid. He's scarred by what someone else has done. He feels like he's playing with the girl by caring and yet not giving in to his affection, maybe he has yet to confess...she's apparently oblivious. Sounds like maybe the girl took too long, and now he feels like fuck it, i'll just love you from afar. ...but the end is sort of hopeful. He doesn't know what's next. Overall its a sweet song with melencholy undertones, because its unrequieted love. |

definately NOT a requisite song. This is one of my favorites on Withering. Kyo's talking about his life man. How people see him in pain and they sometimes enjoy it. And it's never enough, the pain, becuase there's an emptiness that blood just can't erase. The song seems like a mockery of what he does as a performer. In the first stanza he says : lyrical show time Full of ability It’s the Blood Red show time comical show time Inflammation of vitality It’s the Blood Red show time cynical show time Reality comes to life It’s the Blood Red show time radical show time Eternity breaks It’s the Blood Red show time He's onstage all the time, and he has to put up this farce image. Wild and crazy, spin his sorrow into beautiful words, and give the people what they want. "Reality comes to life" while the fans and crowd watch with awe as he bleeds, thats his way of existing. But in all his success, and despite the fact that fans worship him he "still can't find the meaning of his existence"...so he keeps cutting. the repitition of the words just adds to his flippant attitude of doin whatever the hell he wants with his body. I think these lines are in response to some critical comments made saying he was a fake and his performances were not real. Most people think one outgrows self mutilation but for him it's not a ploy or something he thinks he'll outgrow until he finds what he's looking for. "The voices of the backstabbers stick to me"-all his betrayal that helps to fuel his self destruction. "Someday the voice will head straight to my heart"- he's trying to be flippant about what they say, like it doesn't hurt. "Go ahead and laugh...and break away"- again response to people thinking he's a joke and being amused by his hurt. The chorus of the song "Hurry wrist cut show"-is his mocking invitation to their concerts to watch him bleed. It's catchy...I mean, who doesn't want to watch a car crash? So the song is decieving on purpose, almost as if to say no one really sees whats happening here. "Show time it's none of my business"- the blind eye people around him turn to his self mutilation...maybe they think it's an act too. Then the last lines, which to me are so COld, "Please come to the last gasp with me, my pleasure"-are basically his sad little invitation, once again, to watch him bleed. I hope that helped some. It's only my interpretation but I figured I'd take a stab at it. Anyway, go listen to it again. The crazy chords and the way he sings it-his voice is laced with cynicism, and the crazy chords just add to how out of control he feels with his cutting and his life. It's musical genius, this song...just makes me think of how society and people see what they wanna see. |
