apparently this song was written because a manager or producer told her to write a song that would be popular on the radio. by making 'radio' a part of the song it almost guaranteed success |

i adore this song, and Joni. her lyrics are so cool and relevent to the time. 'I'll even kiss the sunset pig' is such a good line - she's so desperate to go back to California that'd she even kiss the Sunset Boulevard Police officers (pigs). back then during the 60's they disliked the police and as is still common, called them pigs and a popular hippie hangout was Sunset Boulevard. there's also another possible meaning, at some pub they used to hold up a pet pig at sunset every day and someone would have to kiss it. she's saying she would love to go back to California so much that she'd even kiss a pig. |

how free she must feel after experiencing this revolution. i agree, transparent dangling carrots is such a clever line. i've read a lot about Buddhist culture and religion lately and i place a high value on their beliefs. i've tried to adopt some of their beliefs but i've experienced sucha negative feedback. people can't stand seeing me content, people hate it when i don't get angry with them. i would love to feel the liberation and gratitude that Alanis must feel after her experience. amazing song, one of my favourites. |

im vegetarian and i thought i was doing something worthwhile, then my friend took it upon himself to call me a hypocrite because i said i missed jelly (contains gelatine). i went home and listened to this song over and over again and got a whole new appreciation for it. she must have been in such an emotionally frustrating state. assuming it's about a relationship with a friend/boyfriend, they're supposed to appreciate our good and bad, they're supposed to support our decisions and most importantly, they're supposed to accept us as we are |

absolutely adore this song...listened to JLP since i was 5. to me this song refers to how even though she reveals so much of herself to the public, she still keeps aspects of herself private. She's got one hand in her pocket, to herself...and the other is free for public view. i think it also refers to how someone can have so many different sides to their personality, and how many of them go unnoticed. |
