When he says "wandering souls captured my thoughts", I think he means that people who aren't saved (wandering souls) are bothering him, whether it be something they said, whatever. Whatever they said or did was on his mind. When he watched the walls move closer, that is his mind being overwhelmed with these thoughts and worries. Then he realizes that all this is meaningless and doesn't matter. The last line says "What have I learned from yesterday?" To me, that means that yesterday (before he found God) he learned things, but all this is meaningless so it didn't mean anything. And now that he has found God, he can now learn things that actually matter. IMO. |
