| Mute Math – No Response Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I'm disappointed by the mild post-modernism feel of this song... "tell me what is wrong and right / I don't suppose that anybody knows / And maybe when we reach the end / We'll ask imaginary friends / Why no response" It almost sounds like he's saying that he's not getting any answers about absolute truth and if there's no God responding then when we get to the end we'll have to ask imaginary friends... It's a strange interpretation given what I know about MuteMath, but it's the only thing I'm getting from it... a disappointing contrast to the subtle confidence of "Control" or "Chaos" |

What's your problem, Paradiso? Show some respect. V was a decent movie anyway. Not sure what the song means, though. It's railing against some sort of corrupted status quo... whether it's specifically government or corporations or just "the world," I don't know. |

| As I Lay Dying – An Ocean Between Us Lyrics | 18 years ago |

"how many years have we waited for a ship that never set sail? and how many days have we wasted chasing a love that was not our own?" -------- Pursuing the relationship. "i sat ashore and watched as one hopeless wave crashed upon another while my thoughts ran to the highest hills my heart never reached the sea with only delusions of an endless journey" --------- Nothing happens. "i am left with an ocean between you and me" ------ There is still a distance between them. "is this your salvation? is this all you can give?" ------ Is friendship as much as you can give me? "i will not stand in reflection of someone else’s dream" ------ Being with you was my dream, but I need to let go because that dream belongs to someone else. |

favorite song on the album. fox boy is right on, it's about asking people why they seek God for truth and answers when they can't realize that their biases and emotions cause them to hear what they want to hear in the first place... "there is no difference between us" and unbelievers if we all just act on what we feel is right. We have to look past what we want to happen and put others interests ahead of our own. |

I interpret this song as someone realizing they've been waiting and waiting for something to happen and finally deciding that this isn't what they are supposed to be doing and deciding to move on. I think it applies more to your life purpose in general but it is interesting to think about in terms of a relationship: "how many years have we waited for a ship that never set sail? and how many days have we wasted chasing a love that was not our own?" |
