To me, this song is about life. Life meaning relationships, growing up, going through rough times, ect. The metaphor that the narrator uses of being a "king" is likely there to illustrate just how far one can fall during this times. From power to being pushed around. From wealth to poverty. From life to death. Also, the constant imagery throughout the album indicates a strong connection to the French revolution, which is really the only documented case of Anarchy (although it didn't last very long). So basically, there is a comparison between the extravagance of a monarchy, to the reality of Anarchy, much like going from the innocence of childhood to the reality of adulthood. The biblical imagery is simply there to support the depth and magnitude of the idea. The song uses many ideas of redemption and salvation to create a "happy ending", even though the narrator knows that "Saint peter won't call his name", to show the paradoxical nature of life, love, and the general human condition. Overall, however, the song is about knowing that even though you may not be a king, or may have fallen from your throne, there is always happiness to be had. That being said, this song is amazing. |

this song is obviously about him describing his perfect girl and if she is out there... i like it alot... but i think that it bears striking similarities to "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe.. If you haven't read it then read it and listen to this song... it deals with almost the exact same subject and has some of the same ideas... even the title is similar to this song... |
