i think that she compares god to herself when she says "you kiss his lips he forgives you it he forgives you for all you've done but not me i'm still angry" yes, people say that god forgives everyone but people can't always do that. or she is saying that a woman who made her husband mad kisses him and gets forgiven, well that doesn't work for everyone. then she goes on to say that that she has a plan, no matter how good or bad a plan it is, at least she has one. she wants to pretend that everyone wants the same thing as her, peace because theyre tired lonely and bloody. its just so well written. |

such a funny, upbeat song. its such an odd topic to pick, but its hilarious. when i listen to it i seem to compare jon stewart to the steven colbert character. it really goes along with the idea of not being able to choose your family. its true, my family is full of complete opposites, catholic and jewish. its just so funny to me. |

such a good song. it has a sort of humor, and is told through the eyes of s girl growing up. we doesn't understand why she can't continue to behave the way she wants. why she can't just hang out with the guys. its amazing. i love thr irony in the end. |

this is one of the most beautifully written songs i have ever listned to. it shows how a once good relationship slowly deteriorates throughout the year. how they begin fall out of love. they forget the things they used to do for fun with eachother. the relationship begins to become seemingly pointless. we see this as she sings the line, "And then the snow, and then the snow came, we were always out shoveling
And we'd drop to sleep exhausted, and we'd wake up and it's snowing" they spent the day shoveling, went to bed, woke up and they needed to shovel all over again. its just to poignant! |

she was a teenager that made a mistake with a guy and got pregnant. she didn't try to blame it on anyone else. she knew that it wasnt god, it wasnt that special, she wasnt the virgin mary. she wanted the baby to have some meaning in the name so she names him elvis. the guy left. she remembers this as she counts the stretch marks from being pregnant. its a beautiful song. |

guenivere is such a beautiful name. okay, but yeah, i adore this song. he says that he always trusts people too quickly and they end up hurting him. he wants real purity in a person. aparantly he trusted guenivere and she hurt him. he doesnt want to be vulnerable anymore and admit that he loves her. she ends up leaving at the end and helps her pack the her bags finding old memories in the drawers. |

this song is absolutely amazing. people have a tendency to lie at funerals of bad people. if you were bad when you were alive, then you're not suddenly an amazing person when you die. he's standing up for his beliefs. he's not going to go along and say how great of a dad he's been when he was never there for him. also, i love the lyrics, "we never saw the money that went down your throat
through the hole in your belly." to use the word belly means that gibbard chooses to allow the listener to see the narrarator as a child. its a great writing technique for this song. |

this is probably one of my favorite songs of all times. i think its about a breakup that he really wants to forget about. he wrote her letters because he had to, but the letters were unreadable. he wants nothing to do with the other person. it kind of reminds me of eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. he wants to forget everything and as he does, the memories of her becomes a blur |
