I feel it is about the transition to adulthood and transition from rmoantic love to real love with the person you are with. When you marry you have a fantasy of how life should be. You are in essence still like a child with your childish thoughts and beliefs. As you grow, you change. As I change, I may ask my wife, "am I still the man I'm supposed to be?" A marriage or any relationship has much pain and change. You cannot deny that and perhaps a fall from grace (infidelity). But in the end, he will stay with her, forever, even after death. As we grow and mature we will change. But this doesn't mean that we still won't be the person whom the other fell in love with so long ago. |

It is a beautiful song. I can relate. I once lost someone I loved dearly because I was young and immature and did not know how to treat her properly. I never thought of how beautiful the memory is as a face begins to fade, but it is true when you think about it. I suppose when someone has to deal with someone else who has some emotional issues, it is difficult. It seems to be the case in this song. The girl has had enough and has left. This is lovely also: I know there's a lesson in here But it's so hard to find I've been searching my mind A little pearl of wisdom for the later years |

There is one person who made mention of the song being about someone who isn't particularly happy with his life. When I first heard this song it finally clicked for me. It spoke to me about what I'd been feeling. I'm not sure that I'm right about the song, but it seems to be an appropriate song for a situation I find myself in at this moment: married to a great person, but terribly unhappy. I've fallen in love with someone new but that person does not feel the same way about me. It is a song about being stuck. Stuck in an impossible situation. The singer cannot have the one he loves. He even says he wants something new, but what is he supposed to do? Also, there is a line: ask yourself a question, anyone but me, I ain't free. The singer is asking the other person to ask herself the question. Perhaps this woman is also married. Anyways, I'm probably way off, who knows? All I know is this song seems to speak to me about my situation. YEAH! I WANT SOMETHING NEW!!! I LOVE YOU. |
