the poetic phrasing in this song is absolutely beautiful. im not going to pick it apart to explain what i tihnk of it becuase theres so much to say about it and it doesnt say enough. however the general ide aof this song is that clapton is looking to his fathers eyes for guidance for how to b a father. no-one is ever prepared to become a father and clapton not knowing his father even less. this a deep soul searching for how to be a good father when he had no model to go by |

alot of people have said that this song is about prostitutes or the city of LA or about pam.. its about all of them. LA woman is a metephor for for ther character of the city. The La mentallity especially at night is to go out and have a good time but this leads to everything being so superficialhence the cops in cars topless bars never seen a woman so alone. everyone seems to b ahveing a good time but they become just another LA woman, just part of the crowd. Are u a lucky little lady would b jim talking about pam as she is the partying type but he thinks he sees something deeper in her, something that doesnt fit the LA woman mould. he goes on to call her his cosmic soulmate. he found his ray of sunshine in the city of night. i agree that this song is about a guy loosing his wife and having to try to stay strong for his daughter. not sure if his wife has died or left him. "how big do i have to be" makes it sound as if she has left him but i think he is talking to a higher power as in the beginning of the song he is tlaking about trying to keep faith. beautiful song |
