Led Zeppelin – In the Evening Lyrics 18 years ago
I have read that many songs (not all) in the Led Zeppelin catalogue present the doctrines of Aleister Crowley. So I would not be surprised if this song falls into that category...

HOWEVER, I would like roadrunner99 to give me a verse by verse, line by line breakdown of this song, showing clearly the references to the Devil and the Black Sabbath...to my ears, it sounds like a blues song about a woman.

I'm trying hard to give the band the benefit of the doubt in most cases. I do admire their music and their talent, but as a Christian, I cannot in any way support their worldview.

So someone please show me how these lyrics reflect the Devil. It makes me wonder. I don't have to share their belief system to enjoy the music, but considering that Crowley despised the Christian faith, I am a bit uncomfortable when Jimmy Page hails him as a great man. Kind of sours my listening experience when I consider what the motivation behind the songs MIGHT be.

Great talent. The occult references and the like just ruin it for me.

Which explains why I like "III" so much. Other than "Celebration Day" which is supposedly about this pact with Satan, the rest of the album kind of leaves the occultic / mystical stuff out of the picture. No cryptic, esoteric meanings to figure out...just straight-forward great music!

Page and Plant – Most High Lyrics 18 years ago
"David's seed" is Jesus, according to the Scriptures, and the song speaks of his "paper crown"...obvious to me that they are putting Jesus down while elevating the "Most High"...

I have read that Aleister Crowley referred to Satan with the title of "Most High"...just food for thought as to what this song might be about.

I do admire the musical talents of Page and Plant, but I do not concur with their worldview or spiritual leanings.

Led Zeppelin – The Rain Song Lyrics 18 years ago
"The mystery of the quotient" sounds to me like another Crowley reference. I could be wrong.

The lyrics for this song are in the CD booklet (and presumably the original album cover). I've noticed that the line "keepers of the gloom" is rendered as "Keepers Of The Gloom"...why is that? My thought is that since Aleister Crowley called Christianity "the gloom" and considered it a "gloomy religion", could this mean that the songwriter wanted Christian believers to flee from him?

Just wondering why it would be capitalized. Check it out for yourselves.
