i'm pretty sure this is an Arch Enemy song, unless it is a cover. either way, i've never heard the Manowar version (if there is one).
anyway, to me, this song is about crushing the forces of evil and lies, brutally, if necesary. |

I think it's about a dysfunctional love/hate relationship. I think it's one of Green Day's most under rated songs, along with Hausika. I love how GD ran them together, they sound so good! |

I just thought that it was kind of mocking the American attitude and Metallica's perception that America is always wanting to go to war, in general, rather than a specific conflict. |

I gotta believe it's about the Crimean War, that makes the most sense. But I also like the idea of the Napoleonic Wars, or some Prussian war. |

But who's talking in the song? It's obviously not Erik, the Phantom.
The song definately has a sweet running feel to it, like what everyone else said. My favorite part is the running guitar solo after "You know I'm helpless from your mesmerising cat call." |

Is it sacreligious to say this song is about Jesus? Cause I kinda think that it sounds like something Jesus would say to the Pharasies who were always condemning Him. Some parts of the song don't make a lot of sense with that interpretation, but the "repairing the rift" "I carry the tourch of my fathers" (Jesus, son of David) and the general feeling of the song give me the impression that it might be about Jesus.
But I agree with everyone else. The song is definately about someone not conforming to everyone else's opinion. |

I have always heard it was about late nights after the birth of his child, but it sounds more like he's shitfaced or drugged up or suffering insomnia. Heck, then again, he could just have the flu or something. I always feel this way when I'm sick, and I just can't sleep 'cause it's what I done all day.
No, matter what the case, I love the sick distortion. It's like blurry vision, dizzyness, and that crap around your eyes when you wake up. |

this song deffinately satirizes extreme nationalism, no doubts there. It's still awesome.
As for the UN. It's pretty worthless as a peace keeping force. Ever hear of Darfur? (sp?) Somalia? Bosnia? The're all examples of failed international diplomacy. And the only reason we're in Iraq now is because the U.N. (France and Russia) didn't care enough to back up the resolutions they made.
And for the U.S. military, you can thank them for the world as you know it. The U.S. was a key player in both world wars. If Hitler wasn't stopped, the world would be considerably different from the way we know it. Think about the first Gulf War. Kuwait was INVADED. The U.S. basically protected a country that got stomped on. I would consider that to be a good thing. And for vietnam, that was a French possession, and should have been fought WITH them instead of FOR them. (Sorry about the political rant) |

It's about an Egyptian Pharaoh (check the album artwork for it), but the rock star metaphor works, too. The fill before the Chorus is freakin' sweet, also. |
