I think the interpretations about racism and religious are probably more accurate but for me this song is a plea from the lover of someone haunted by a history of mental illness and depression, for her and the world to be ok. |

First line always reminds me of "Title and Registration" by DCFC, similar melody and rhythm. I love this song though, I think I prefer the b-sides to A Weekend In The City. This, Atonement, Cain Said To Abel, England, Emma Kate's Accident, and possibly Selfish Son could all have gone on the album. I think the album sounds a little contrived in parts. |

Love Bloc Party so much. I only have a live recording of this, is there a studio version? Amazing song. |

TO THE OUTSIDE ALL THE DEAD LEAVES, THEY ARE ALIVE. FOR THE DONT HAVE TREES TO HANG THEIR HEARTS.
Something like that doesnt really need a rationalised meaning. It creates a very powerful image and atmosphere. One of my favourite lines ever. |

"That burns a scented oil
That I'll drip into your bath"
"And love is the dream you enter
Though I shake and shake and shake you"
That sounded to me like sexual imagery? Maybe I'm just odd... |

I might be wrong, but sometimes I think attaching romantic symbolism to songs seems almost petty in the face of something so great, so significant, yet so nameless. No idea. |

I think Elliott Smith would like this. Its still shy, still self destructive, still beautiful. And his own music is pretty damn good, listen to it. |

Ok I guess you can read the "blow you...." and "go down...." as meaningless (but funny) double entendre. On the other hand, I like to see it as incorporating the rush of blossoming sexual relationships, I mean its all part of growing up right? |
