At first I thought it was just a bit of a love song "I don't know who to call...." Now, I'm thinking more that it's about his disillusionment with politics. "muffled cry beneath the ground", where people don't speak out when they're in difficulties. "you're asking for commitment" parties want him to vote for them, but he doesn't know who to vote for. "are you willing to resist for people you've never met" would MPs stand up against their leaders (Iraq?) "is it cold where you are at this time of year" where leaders jet-set around the world and leave their people at home in the cold. "I've got no-one to call" he feels noone is representing his interests. Just a thought. Maybe a little deep for Maximo Park. |

Good song, I've always thought of it as a morning after a night on ecstasy pills. Check the wikipedia for ecstasy effects: "feel the cold setting in" a side of ecstasy afterwards "I start to fear the worst" depression an after effect of ecstasy "feel like my teeth are falling out" Bruxia (teeth-grinding) a side effect of ecstasy "won't do it again, but i know i will" he's addicted. "lets me know that i've survived" worried he's taken a dodgy one Also fits with the stupid things he's done whilst high. Great song as well. |
