Modest Mouse – Bukowski Lyrics 18 years ago
And for the record I believe in enjoying life as much as you can.

I also do not believe that using mind altering substances is a sin. No where in the bible does it say this. Jesus himself drank wine.

Who'd wanna be the kind of person that does the kind of things that get you to hell, without taking two seconds out of their day to just ask for forgiveness and be scotch-free afterlife bound.

Think about your options as an athiest: either one, you're right and you're going to be worm food when you die; or two, you're wrong and you'll burn be in pain for all eternity.

Alright, now think about your options as a Christian: either one, you're right and you'll be in bliss for eternity; or two, you're wrong and you're worm food when you die.

Think about this.
When you're a Christian, what's the worst that could happen. When you're an athiest, THEN what's the worst that could happen. I believe you'll find the athiest's worst scenario is infinitely worse than the Christian's worst scenario.

"It sounds bright and shiny for a reason. That's the way crystal meth feels. It's a sunny-disposition drug. It's supposed to sound attractive because the song is about the allure of a decadent lifestyle. But it's also a cautionary tale. There are real consequences to the choices we make. 'Doing crystal meth will lift you up until you break.'" - Stephen Jenkins

Caesars – Jerk It Out Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about methamphetamine.

"Wind me up
Put me down
Start me off and watch me go
I'll be running circles
around you sooner than you know"
Hyperactivity.

"Cause it's easy once you know how it's done
You can't stop now
It's already begun
You feel it running through your bones
and you jerk it out
So you jerk it out"
You feel the endorphins running through your body, and you jerk around. It makes you tweak.

"Shut up, hush your mouth
Can't you hear you talk too loud
No I can't hear nothing
because I got my head up in the clouds
I bite off anything I can chew
Chasing cars up and down the avenue
But that's okay"
meth makes you talk a mile a minute and someones telling him to shut up, but he's saying he doesn't care because his head is up in the clouds. he's high.

a reference is made to chewing, meth makes you grind your teeth.

"chasing cars up and down the avenue." super energetic.

could be about masterbation also i guess, but it makes more sense to me this way.

My line by line analysis -

"I'm packed and I'm holding"- he's got meth on him.

"I'm smiling, she's living, she's golden"- he's happy, his girlfriend is doing meth with him and he thinks she's beautiful, they both feel alive.

"She lives for me, says she lives for me"- she loves him, or at least says she does.

"Ovation, her own motivation"- a reference to Ovation Pharma, a company that manufactures methamphetamine pills. His girlfriend has her own motivation to be with him.

"She comes round and she goes down on me"- this one's pretty obvious.

"And I'll make her smile, like a drug for you. Do ever what you want to do, coming over you. Keep on smiling what we go through"- just another drug reference. He's telling people to live the lifestyle that makes you happy, and fuck off. He tries to be happy with his girlfriend, even though they go through alot of shit.

"One stop to the rhythm that divides you. And I speak to you like the chorus to the verse, chop another line like a coda with a curse."- I believe in those first two lines he is referencing the song's upbeat melody. In the last line, he is cutting up lines of meth with a razor to snort, and he's doing it over and over again to stay up (coda).

"And I come on like a freakshow takes the stage, we give 'em the games we play."- I think he's referencing how crazy performing the song will be in concert. On the second line, he's bragging to his friends about all the kinky stuff he does with his girlfriend while they're on meth.

(Chorus)
"She says I want something else to get me through this semi-charmed kinda life, baby, baby. I want something else, I'm not listening when you say goodbye."- He and his girlfriend want to feel 'alive', on top of the world, instead of living boring normal lives and meth is their ticket. When his addiction gets so strong that meth is practically his life, his girlfriend leaves him and he turns his shoulder to it.

"The sky was gold, it was rose. I was taking sips of it through my nose and I wish I could get back there. Some place, back there. Smiling in the pictures you would take."- He is high and everything is beautiful, including the sky. He is snorting pink colored (rose) meth. He is recalling it and he wishes he could be back in that moment. He smiled in pictures his girlfriend took of him.

"Doing crystal meth will lift you up until you break. It won't stop. I won't come down, I keep stock. With a tick-tock rhythm and a bump for the drop. Then I bumped up, I took the hit that I was given. Then I bumped again. And then I bumped again."- He is referencing how crystal meth makes you high, but then you come down in a crash that feels horrible. He loves the feeling so he's going to keep snorting what he has in stock to stay high. He's waiting to bump up, and he finally does. Still he wants more, so he bumps several more times.

"How do I get back there to the place where I fell asleep inside you? How do I get myself back to the place where you said"- He wishes he could go back to the days that he could go to sleep, and the days that he was bored sometimes even with sex. That would be better to him.

(Chorus)

"I believe in the sand beneath my toes. The beach gives a feeling, and earthy feeling. I believe in the faith that grows."- He's starting to live clean. He's again enjoying the simple, natural pleasures of life rather than meth. He finds religion.

"And the four right chords can make me cry. When I'm with you I feel like I could die and that would be alright, alright."- He wishes he was with her again.

"And when the plane came in she said she was crashing, the velvet it rips, in the city we tripped on the urge to feel alive. But now I'm struggling to survive. Those days you were wearing that velvet dress, you're the priestess I must confess. Those little red panties they pass the test. Slide up around the belly face down on the matress."- She flies back into town again, and she's coming down. They get together. He recalls when they used to trip in the city to feel more alive and he's still having trouble living with his addiction. They find they are still attracted to each other and they have sex.

"One, and you hold me, and we're broken. Still it's all that I want to do, just a little now. Feel myself, heavy as the ground. I'm scared, but I'm not coming down. No, no. And I won't run for my life. She's got her jaws now locked down in a smile but nothing is alright, alright."- They are lying together in love, but he can't resist the temptation and he has a relapse. He describes the feeling of when the high starts to come on and he gets a little paranoid. Still, he is determined to stay up and never lose the feeling. They are having fun doing meth together again, but he knows that after they come down, nothing will be alright.

(Chorus, only slower)

Oh yeah I love the
"Still its all that I want to do just a little now
Feel myself
With a head made of the ground
I'm scared
But I'm not coming down, no no
And I won't run for my life
She's got her jaws just locked now in smile
But nothing is all right
All right" verse.

I've always liked this song but never knew what it was about until like a month ago. It makes perfect sense though and the whole thing is really cleverly put together.

I think instead of "Feel myself with a head made of the ground," it's "Feel myself heavy as the ground,". The head made of ground line just doesn't make sense to me.
