I think the opening line is "if you're not fit for survival, then headed on you're way" Great song by an unknown band. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this but if anyone would tab this song out it would be greatly apreciated. The Rhythym is C Am F G fingerpicking (1 3 2 4 - 3 2 4 [string pattern]) with the pinky on the 3rd fret of the high e on the last run of the F and an open high e on the last run of the G. Actually i would be willing to collaborate with anyone who wants to tab it out.

if theres one true thing about iron maiden songs its that there is always more going on in the song then appears and it dosent sound like maiden to give away a complete meaning of the song. Isnt it possible that he is drawing a parelell between the 2 by saying they both imperialized foreign cultures in the name of a religous cause. im not a history major either im a physics major not that that has anything to do with this song or this discusssion

We its obvious that he is criticising the idea that our own human nature is a sin. Like a few others on the album it seems to have some anti religous feelings (The Line: "If we're going to break it down with any logic, it's absurd" reminds me of the line from we will fall together "all we have is logic and love on our side" i think they are similar). Forty days might also be a referance to the flood or less likely jesus' forty days alone.

Ok ok those of you who are to stupid to understand the sarcasm behind this song leave this conversation. They dont hate drinkers either. What the thing most of you are forgetting is that punk is about doing your own thing regardless of what anyone else is doing. Associating your self with a movement such as hardcore because it is hardcore contridicts itself. drink if you want to, dont if you dont. If everyone else is into hardcore and your the only jock, guess who the punk is.

I think its about how people somtimes intentionally act depressed and bitch about their horrible childhood because they secretly enjoy their own self destructive behavior and its saying that you should try to live past what youve been through and not bring everyone else down by either complaining constantly (some people can complain a lot up to a point) or comiting suicide. note the line because your way behind in empathy and overdue on trust.

We did not ask to be born into this world or even into the authority of the government. By constructing a mandatory set of laws and governmental regulations we confine ourselves. It is necesary for government for the sole purpose of order but we become so used to its limits that we forget that they are manmade. In this sense we build our own walls and thereby eradicate true individuality especially when the idea of life becomes defined by people as a whole instead of by each individual. We are free if we want to be but self conciousousness and the need to fit in and conform obstruct our true path of individualistic feeling. Even this sounds like somthing from a stupid drugged up hippy it is indeed true that the government blocks our thoughts, wills, values, and our true natures. This causes most hipocrisy and what we call selfishness it is just a byproduct of a radical change in nature to conform to popular images.
