i think its about his woman leaving him... and he's so angry at her - but still loves her, so he's really bitter about it. i feel like every other line is angry and bitter (his anger coming out), and the ones in between are regretful (his sadness and undying love for her) when you're out, tell your lucky one to know that you'll leave. [i agree with logical_poet, he's bitter, and telling her to warn the next "lucky one" she's with that she's just going to leave and break his heart.] but you don't lock when you're fleeing I'd like not hear keys [now, he's telling her to leave, but not to lock the door, because the sound of the keys and the padlock will symbolically lock her out of his life] only hold till your coffee warms, [get the hell out] but don't hurry and speed. [but then again, you don't have to rush...] one a time put a tongue in your ear in the beach and you clutched kicking heels [just reminding her about how much they both used to love each other, and almost trying to tempt her to stay, because they obviously had a beautiful relationship] |

after thinking about this song for a while, my best guess is that this girl is his brother's women. they love each other so much, but they know it's wrong, and it's really bothering both of them. {it fucks with your honor} at the end... they just have to give in and he tells her that he doesn't even care, because "he's in love with [her] honor" and everything else about her. "i know it well" is just him admitting to himself that he's absolutely sure that he's in love with her, and unfortunately, there's nothing he can do about it. "that secret that *we* know" is the secret between them, that they have to keep for the sake of all three of them. "but you know that it's good girl, because it's running you with red" is him reassuring her that even though what they're feeling is not "right" its filling her with passionate love (red) that, obviously, she's not feeling from her current relationship. |

I really agree with mollyanne, but i too disagree with "consider this.... too much" I think it was that he made this desicion to tell her how he feels and now he realizes its a huge mistake because shes just not going to take him back... now he put himself out there for nothing probably one of my all time favorite songs |

I love this song, even though I can't personally relate to it... but it does make me appreciate my friends, and realize how important they are to me. And a thought on the lines : "Are you sitting in the lights? Or combing your hair again, And talking in rhymes? Are you sitting in the lights?" ... I know someone who posted before said that it was probably about what Allie used to do at the beach, but I'm thinking that he's [Kevin] trying to picture her in heaven and wondering what she's doing right then... the things that he mentions are pretty typical things that "angel"s do. Again... I love this song. |
