Circa Survive – Kicking Your Crosses Down Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is obviously about religion. It speaks of how you don't need religion to love or live your life as a "moral" person.

I wrote before about how the line "Purchase your tickets; I'm kicking your crosses down" Is about people in the middle ages actually being charged by the catholic church for penance and slips of paper that served as a ticket of salvation. He's trying to reveal all the terrible sins and wars religion in general has caused.

Later he speaks of how free he is free to love, simply because he has no religious lines to cross. He is associated with no religion. no religion, no arguments. like John Lennon said "imagine no religion" that is what this songs about. "We won't be saved, we'll live as slaves to love"

He ends speaking about how he still feels like he believes in God, but he'll never really be sure. Cause God never answers, not really, every prayer he makes "rolls off the backs" of the people in the pew/row in front of him.

Anthony Green is a spectacular poet, extremely insightful by using a lot of classic, and historical references in his lyrics. He borrows a line from William Blake poem in another song.

my mind's not a well. it won't run dry.
just keep drinking water and you'll be alright.
-Anthony Green

I learned never to empty the well of my writing, but always to stop when there was still something there in the deep part of the well, and let it refill at night from the springs that fed it.
-Ernest Hemingway

two amazing writers

"purchase your ticket I'm kicking your crosses down"

i think MIripper99 is pretty on with his interpretation

i think it may also be a refrence to actual history when in the middle ages the catholics actually sold penence to heaven similar to a ticket to salvation.

in purchasing the "ticket" i think people sort of admitted that they beleived in the the church more than they beleived in god

Every Time I Die – Ebolarama Lyrics 18 years ago
The whole songs about partying and being a band.

"Boys: Shoot to thrill from the hip. It's time we put the "act" in action. We've tricked the pigs into thinking that this auction is a pageant. In no time there will be makeup on our new set of cutlery. The livestock is star struck. They're all salivating like ravenous cartoons. Goddamn animal. You'd better watch where you spit."

Refrences how their going to get the girls all worked up while they're on stage whether they find them attractive or not.

"Squeal like soft music. If it helps, we'll dim the lights on the floor. Neon bulbs are the cosmetics of swine. Everybody looks quite dazzling, trussed up in their formal attire. You'd make a great secret if I could keep you, but we all spill our guts. We're locked and loaded. Drip fed and bloated. Our trigger fingers snagged in the mouse trap of the moment. Turns the lights out on us, like a moth left in the cold. In the dark, begging for more. When the urgency strikes you, you'd better not lose your nerve. It's the rush that the cockroaches get at the end of the world. It's alright."

Deciding who they plan on hitting on/sleeping with/etc.

"There's a pail by the bed if you need one, but you're doing just fine, when in rome we shall do as the romans, when in hell we do shots at the bar. Last call, kill it. We don't thing in terms of the morning afters, and we don't utter a single word of the nights before. In the meantime we're just thoughtless incessant buzzing apparatus. Disillusioned and lonelier than the last man standing. It doesn't get any better than this so run like hell."

getting really fucking drunk lol

"This is a rock and roll take over. Living each day one night at a time. There were mercy fucks, there was blood. You should have been there by my side. This is passion, this is red handed denial. I have no lover and she hasn't the prettiest eyes. Last call, kill it."

the outro is a summary of the whole song/the whole night.

this song is utter genius. its easy to understand the just of it but you can still pull like 80 metaphors out of it. Keith is a wolf in sheeps clothing, a genius in the form of a drunken rocker
