i noticed this while listening to this song at work today............the backup vocals in the chorus sound an aweful llot like layne staley and jerry cantrell harmonizing. its not in the liner notes on the cd, but take a listen and tell me its not a deadringer for those 2. it would make sense too as they were good friends with andy wood too.

it think it actually has something to do with how you dont even really like the people you consider your friends, and they are just using you for the most part, but you put on a show anyways (So where the hat and do the dance And let the suit keep wearing you). i think the prison rape thing works too though.

i just watched an artist profile on janes addiction last night, and perry was saying that this song has a deep philosphical meaning, and he pointed out the line "how you treat the weak is your true nature calling" many times. i think hes just trying to say that peoples true nature comes out when they are dealing with people who are weaker or lesser than they are.

i think the coke line doesnt make sense to us because its written wrong here. its clearly "line me up and snort it again" which makes perfect sense. as a person who has flirted with cocaine many times, i know that this is the only way it would make sense. i just recently saw PT live at coachella, and i have gotta say it was the highlight of the weekend for me, even above rage. i wasnt even too huge a fan of PT, but after their set, i havent been able to stop listening to the CD...i guess patton just knows how to work a room.

I heard that this song is actually about Layne Staley. apparently him and Maynard were really tight, and this is just about Layne's struggles with drugs. i could be wrong, but that would correspond to his artist friend people have been talking about that only does good when hes high. anyone else heard of this?
