"One night and one more time, Thanks for the memories, Even though they weren't so great, He tastes like you, only sweeter," hi, closer refferences. that was a great movie. i rented it because i'm totally intrigued by panic! at the disco's lyrics (their song title 'lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off (but it's better if you do) is from the movie) and heard the "he tastes like you but sweeter" part and was like "DANGGG. HOW MANY BANDS ARE GONNA RIP OFF THIS MOVIE?!" i'm glad they did though. it's fantastic. |

on a personal level (to gerard, not me), i definitely think this is about bert mccracken. since the lyrics were first leaked as shut up and play, i've been completely convinced that this song is about them. bert's still doing a lot of stuff that gerard gave up, even though bert knows it will kill him, and gerard's trying to help him, but bert doesn't understand and is pushing the people who are trying to help away. they had great times together, but bert is willing to throw it all away because he doesn't understand how to mature. i can really tear into this song and dissect every line, but i'll save that for later. |

oh. and backing up my theory (not saying it's true, just giving my reasoning and all that jazz). i'm really really really terrible at expressing what i'm trying to say, and i'm most likely not right, but this is just how i translated the song in my mind, line by line. i'm ignoring the fact that he even mentions guys in the beginning, because who's to say what perspective he's writing from? "all the tension and the terror" since being gay isn't always widely accepted, there may be sexual tension between them, but they're too afraid to actually let that be known. "thin limbed gorgeous green eyes smiling and i'm going straight to hell" as most people know, homosexuality is definitely not generally accepted in the christian religion, thus his homosexuality would condemn him. " the possibility and promise just weighs on me so heavily" there's a chance that the feelings may be mutual, and they get along well so it's really tempting to act on his emotions "and i try but i'm not convincing your lips, they pout and twist and i die trying just to keep myself from kissing you." he's trying to hide that he has these feelings but when the other person does the slightest thing, or he even sees the other person, he feels like everyone can see through his facade, and they know that he's gay. he's doing everything in his willpower to keep himself from acting on his feelings, but it's proving to be really difficult, and it's killing him emotionally in the process. "you take in everything with a certainty i envy it's somehow all i need just keep me guessing please" the other person doesn't seem to be as uncomfortable with himself as he (john) is, and it's screwing with his mind that he doesn't for sure know how he feels about him, but the unknown keeps him intrigued anyway. "darling, all of these awkward, jump-start, stalling conversations mean much more to me than anything" as with most would-be couples, they have awkward conversations because they don't want to cross the line to being straightforward about their feelings, but he treasures the conversations though they are awkward, because they may be the most he has the courage to start. "it comes down to me and you and whether we're supposed to or not, we still will we're so much better off than them" although there are people who think of same sex relationships as wrong, it's not about those people, it's about the two involved in the relationship, and whether the others will accept it or not, they're still going to have the same attractions. they don't need everyone's input on their relationship. "a look a laugh a smile a second passes by and i regret it" they seem to exchange looks, etc between the two of them, but he doesn't want to miss these things, but he can't make a big deal out of them either, even if he wished to. "words just aren't right sometimes i just can't explain all the ways you devastate me always on my mind" especially if he's still questioning himself/the other person, it's not easy to express his attraction, and it's constantly nagging at him. of course, this song could just as easily be about any sort of relationship, but i got the impression that it was about a guy. but. you know. haha. blueeyedjuly7: you just made me feel a lot less stupid. the first time i heard this song, i automatically thought, "so is john gay?" and as i was reading the rest of the comments, i was thinking, "well i'm probably just a moron who can't interpret lyrics for her life". glad someone else thought about that too. |
