It's not "I heard it sunday morn' from inside of these walls", it's "I heard and sung them all from inside of these walls" And it's definitely OLD life, not whole life. It says old life in the lyrics in the album What's the song from 1962? |

OK, so no one has really said much about what the song really means. None of it is intended to mean anything about women being any sort of problem. The first verse deals with the music industry and radio. He's saying that this is something that a lot of artists see as a problem, but that he doesn't let it bother him - "Got beef with radio if I don't play they show they don't play my hits well I don't give a shit, so!" The second verse deals with an actual event that happened to him. He was pulled over by a policeman whilst he was driving during the time he was dealing drugs. He told the policeman he couldn't search his trunk without a warrant, so the policeman called in the sniffer dogs. Fortunately for Jay-Z, the sniffer dogs didn't turn up, so the policeman let him go. If they had turned up, Jay-Z's whole life would have been different and he saw it as "dodging a bullet" so he decided to concentrate his efforts on his music. So basically, a female dog did not cause a problem in his life. The third verse is about people that will try and goad him or get into a fight with him to cause him trouble, but that he deals with it and doesn't let that be a problem for him. |

Personally, the way I saw it was more about the way girls (and people in general) hear his lyrics and think they know what he's like (Listening to lyrics only hears what I allow) and they have this idea of him as some really nice guy or whatever but he's not (View a wolf like me for what I really might be) and that they try and sleep with him because of that and as much as he knows that's what it's all about and he doesn't want to, at the same time he does just want to have sex with them... Maybe not quite, but more that than what BattleBean said... The Lifter Puller bit is a reference to the line "She came on like she wanted a kiss, and now she's kissing like she already came" in the Lifter Puller track Roaming the Foam |
