well, first off, i completely adore this song, and colin meloy, because he is a genius. moving on to my actual interpretation... i liked delial's comment and take on the song, but when i heard it, i thought of something more like turnejam. see, in my mind, i see the boy and the girl, who have just broken up. and even as the boy is accusing the girl "tell me why you lied", he is still in love with her and her shiny eyes. although he's blaming the girl for her infidelity or whatever, he's still transfixed by the shiny-ness of her eyes. "what it is you do to keep your eyes all shiny". so there's a whole love/hate complex going. but that's just what i think, i'm probably wrong. |
