Isn't it funny as how you experience more things in life your perspective on what a song is about can change? I believe this is a song about two people (a guy and girl) who have had instant chemistry right off the back (they're like two magnets). But something happened that repelled her away from him. hating the fact that this song relates to my life right now. And I don't where you went when you left me but It says here in the water, you must be gone by now I can tell somehow -He hasnt' heard from this girl since the break up, so he assumes that she must have moved on, and is dating other guys. She's "gone". He feels he doesn't have a chance anymore. One hand on the trigger of the telephone Wonderin when the call comes, when you say it's all right You got your heart right - He is waiting for the day that he hears from her again, and hopes that she has come to her senses (got her heart right) and tells him that she missed him as much as he has missed her (that feeling of hope ya know?) Maybe I'll sleep inside my coat and Wait on your porch 'til you come back home, alright I can't find a flight We share the sadness Split screen sadness - Him trying to gain the confidence to call her and tell her he misses her, instead of waiting for her to call. Sharing the sadness refers to the fact that he feels so miserable without her, because he loved her, so he figures she must be feeling the same way. Two wrongs make it all alright tonight - They're both being stupid. They're both to stubborn and scared to try to start things up again, and face their issues that caused their break up. Yet they both miss eachother. All you need is love is a lie cause We had a love but we still said goodbye Now we're tired, battered fighters The fact that he labels it "a love" instead of "love" stands out to me for some reason. "A" may be a tiny word, but I think it speaks volume here. Maybe they never said "i love you", and this was the problem in the relationship? I think the person who said this song connects with Something Missing, was right. Maybe they're both career people ... very independent ... and they haven't exactly figured out where they are in life, or where they are going yet. That feeling that something is missing, and if you figured out what that was everything else would make sense. So, they feel uneasy in the relationship, and try not to let it escalate into something serious, so they never say "i love you" and just try to deny what they're feeling. Which leads them to be "battered fighters" of love. And it stings when it nobody's fault Cause there's nothing to blame At the drop of your name, it's only the air you took And the breath you left -The relationship didn't end bc someone did something unforgivable, like cheating. i think this song is about cheating. "lover, lover now tell me this, passion over consequence, since when did the latter take the lead?" "passion over consequence" ... makes me think that it's about a person in a relationship who is sneaking around because they lust ( have "passion") for this other person. and maybe they've been sneaking around for awhile, and now she is getting nervous, and worried about her boyfriend finding out ("when did the latter take the lead" - the consequence of getting caught). so he's telling her to just take a chance, and swing, give him a shot. "lover, lover, on the fence" means she's contemplating something, when someone says they're on the fence about something it means they're undecided. idk that's just the vibe i got from this song, anyone else relate ? |

ok so i think a theme throughout the album is soulmates, jesse trying to find his soulmate. in the song degausser there is a reference to Plato's Symposium, where the mention of the Classical Soulmate Theory was born. this song hits home hard for me. it's clearly about addiction .. whatever your addiction may be. alcohol, cocaine, prescription drugs, etc. i used to look at it a totally different way, but now that i have so many problems in my life because of alcohol, and now that i realize that i have a drinking problem, this song describes exactly how i feel. it's about trying to break the addiction. Sitting around, no work today Try pacing to keep awake Laying around, no school today Just drink until the clock has circled all the way -- feels like the addiction to whatever choice of drug is all they have. It is late afternoon As you walk through the rooms Of a house that is quiet Except for unanswered telephones You stand near the sink While you're mixing a drink You think you don't want to pass out Where your roommates will find you again -- the addiction has distanced them from everyone else; the addiction has pushed the abusers friends and family away because all they care about it getting high/drunk. clearly the addiction is so bad that it has caused the person to pass out before. maybe this person has made a promise to try and stay clean, and they don't want people to find them passed out again, and see that they messed up yet again. You're always looking for something To sniff, smoke, or swallow Calling over next door to see what they got But you would settle for anything That would make your brain slow down or stop -- again, addiction. the feeling that being under the control of a drug substance makes them feel under control, or numb. Break this circle of thoughts you chase Before they catch back up with you -- for me, this makes the whole song. it's clearly stating about how if you just keep abusing the drugs, you'll get no where. your problems aren't gonna go away, you'll just be stuck. and nothing will ever change. the only way you can break the circle is to break the addiction & move on with your life. And your parents noticied your thinning face All the weight you lost All the weight you are losing You said, "I'm done feeling like a skeleton No more sleepwalking dead" You're going to wake from this coma You're going to crawl from this bed you have made -- thinning face = drugs. "no more sleepwaking dead" means that they're tired of feeling empty. the drugs don't allow them to feel, just blocks out all their emotions temporarily. waking from this coma symbolizes how the drugs have made them a different person, and how they don't want to be that person anymore, how much time they have wasted being that person. the "bed you have made" symbolizes how the drugs have caused so many problems in their life. And stop counting on that camera That hangs round your neck Because it won't ever remember What you choose to forget -- i'm not really sure what this part means ... As you try to find some source of light Try to name one thing you like You used to have such a longer list And light, you never had to look for it -- they're not passionate about anything anymore. all they care about is their addiction. they're not happy like they used to be. it's hard to be positive. okay let me just start out by saying that i love 3eb, and i can't wait for their new album to come out. this song is one of my favorites by them. anyways. i think this song is clearly about how the girl he was with has changed, and become a completely different person. i believe this song can have many different meanings for every individual. to me, i think this song has to do with some kind of addiction, or eating disorder. the "empty bliss" refering either to feeling of being empty that anorexics/bulimics strive for, or the "bliss" or 'high' that drug addicts live for .. in this case, the emptiness would refer to the false happines, or temporary happiness that a drug provides. but i think the song overall, has more to do with an eating disorder rather than a drug addiction. it's like the eating disorder is speaking to her, it's controlling her life. taking over her mind... it's making her feel worthless, hopeless, so sick. she can't escape it. |

i think this song is cleary about a relationship gone bad. maybe something happened, maybe timing wasn't right, maybe it's long distance & just could never work out because of this, or something would prevent it from working out. since it doesn't work out, and can never work out, they agree to let go because holding on hurts too much. it's like you love someone so much, and when you lose that person, or that person hurts you, you wish you never met them, & just could completely forget them .. even though you really don't mean it in your heart, you just wish you did cause it would make things so much easier. "This is probably the best, not to mention the worst idea, that I have ever had." .. It's like the saying some things are better left unsaid, but than again, sometimes you have to say fuck it & just say how you feel. Cause if you don't you'll never be able to let go, and you'll always have the 'what if' feeling . But than again, if you do tell eachother how you feel, sometimes knowing how that other person feels makes you miss them even more. But they tell eachother how they feel because they really do love eachother, but they just know it's not gonna work out, but they'll always be in eachother's hearts. i can relate to this alot right now, cause i recently moved back home from school, and was "kind of together" with this kid. than when i left, we kind of left on bad terms, and i didn't say goodbye. and i missed him alot. so i called him the other night & told him how i felt, and that i really missed him, and he told me how he really felt. & in a way it was comforting, and in another way it killed me. but it was kind of the closure i needed. |
