my interpretation of the significance of this song is that its about a guy who has had several emotional experiences with love in the past. he is afraid or reluctant of falling in love, but when he sees this girl he can't help himself. the first verses are him telling her what he feels. (There's something about the look in your eyes.......) "My biggest fear will be the rescue of me, Strange how it turns out that way" means that his biggest fear is returning to his previous form (before he met her), which could be ALONE. the "rescue of him" part would be him coming back to himself (being on his own and thinking for himself again). but he needs to know what she feels, something hidden, something he does not understand, this is the part : "Could you show me dear...something I've not seen? Something infinitely interesting" "There's something about the way you move....." is the second verse. this is the girl talking back to him, she is quietly explaining her hidden emotions on how he expresses his feelings--->(i see your mouth in slow motion when you sing) "More subtle than something someone contrives" means that his feelings for her are something that she has a hard time understanding, therefore she feels so confused. "Your biggest fear is the rescue of you" is the final result.....and it has two meanings.....the girl's interpretation and the guy's interpretation. the girl's view is that she is restating back to him his biggest fear....him returning back to himself. "strange how it turns out that way" is her telling him no, that she can't accept. therefore causing him to return to himself. strange how it turns out that way. this song is really emotional because every piece has its own meaning to a person in his/her own life situations. incubus is the best. |
