| Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
So i decided to see what fall out boy actually has to say in their songs. i was really just curious to see why so many people like them. Not to my surprise, this song was on the top ten most looked up songs. the first part.. "I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words And (don't really care which side wins) As long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in" this sounds quite funny to me. it sounds like he wants his fans to do something, since he's arming you with words, but all people are doing is fighting. this is really funny to me because all this page is about seems like from reading the first comments is weather or not this band is good or not. He says he's just making music for himself and he just wants people to listen to it and not make such a big deal out of it all. its art, its not supposed to receive all this criticism. "This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race" To me this means he wants all the newer bands and the stupid fans that are just followers to do something with the things he's told them. I think he wants them to be different, to be creative and NOT copy him.. I think he's just so pissed off because he didn't mean to change the whole emo scene, I think he just wanted everyone to listen to it and not have it be labeled so insanely heavily. "I'm not a shoulder to cry on, but I digress" He's saying this isn't something for you to sympathize to "I'm the leading man And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate I'm the leading man And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate" I think he's talking about how popular he is... 'the leading man' and how it seems like he lied to his fans because they got the wrong impression from his lyrics. It really just sounds like too many younger people listened to it when they were a fresh band and so the fan base became populated through the younger crowd first, so older and more mature people didn't catch on or didn't listen to it because they saw this completely different scene emerging from it.. and they didn't like it for one reason or another. and theres plenty of testosterone driven men that are deathly afraid of emotional music just because they aren't familiar with their anima. So for most men(and some women), any music without rageful rapping or screaming and growling metal will hate it and talk trash just because they're afraid of people questioning their sexuality or how tough of a person they are. all animalistic instincts that we can expect from humans. "I wrote the gospel on giving up (and looking pretty sinking) But the real bombshells have already sunk (primadonnas of the gutter) At night we're painting your trash gold, while you sleep Crashing not like hips or cars but more like p-p-p-parties" exactly what he says. he wrote the bible for giving up, saying he's written some sad stuff. and it sounds like the bombshells are the other bands that grew from them and fucked up the image of their genre. And when the other bands are making their shitty music just so they can be popular like FOB, FOB is making the genre popular again with their music (painting your trash gold) so people will automatically associate the copy bands with fall out boy and buy their cds also. so basically hes saying that they are paving a path for success for all these shitty wannabe bands by just doing what they've already been doing. the last line there sounds like they literally mean that they make their music in the night and party at the same time. And he could mean crashing of the cymbals, not of the hips or like a car... "Bandwagon's full, please catch another All the boys who the dancefloor didn't love, and all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough, sing, until your lungs give out" basically here he's saying stop drifting around us for your free ride to stardom, make your own damn music. The next part seems to tell all the people who didnt have it so good to sing, which to me just means to let it be, be happy with what you have, so on and so forth. and to not let all the bullshit get you down because it doesn't actually matter that much. and sing until you are out of breath, basically live life to the fullest that you possibly can. anyyyways, im sure a lot of stupid bands sprouted from this one, thinking they had the right idea but they probably were all wrong. They probably focused too much on fitting into the scene instead of creating music as AN ART.. and the ones that did do it for the music? Good for them, and good luck. Anyways this song doesn't seem to have a lot of creative writing in it or anything, its almost EXACTLY to the point, I mean the lyrics literally tell you what he thinks... "This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race" this is the opposite of vague. its funny because he is talking about how people don't take him how he wanted, but his lyrics are so simple and are not confusing to me at all. and ive never heard this song before. all you FOB fans, this song reminds me EXACTLY of a song called "Back to School" by Dftones on their White Pony album. anyone who likes this song should check out those lyrics.. http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3867 So, for not knowing ANYTHING about FOB besides seeing that they have a new CD out that I've seen in every store, how do you think I interpreted the song? seriously, i wouldn't be surprised if i was totally wrong. like what thefoxykyle said, "I really dont like FOB, but I heard this on the radio. When they said ""boys like you are overrated. so save your breath." in one of their songs, it was a stab at Taking Back Sunday. TBS then parleed with their new song "spin" which is now parleed by this." If this is true, a band making a song in response to another band's song over and over, this would be pretty pathetic. I hope they are doing it for the art of music and not just because some other band was making fun of them. but if they are, oh well, just another band to add to the list of bands never to listen to because it isnt actually music or art at all. tell me what you think! Oh yeah - ANYONE with a TRUE appreciation for beautiful guitar work and beautiful vocals as a form of ART should check out The Mars Volta. |

I agree that its about the nun that omar talked about in that interview everyone mentions. the lyrics match the whole story, except for the parts where they kept his random freestyling in it instead of the lyrics that he actually came up with for it. like in this part.. "To sulking Jane, the fall of my pail Well swallowed by your steps Licking the ankles of your blasphemer guilt And I'll admit to draping plastic Over the stuck pig scalp of hair To color the site Where the flat-line had spread The kiosk in my temporal lobe Is shaped like Rosalyn Carter And she says my mouth is home again But talk face down I've only bled a million blemishes To tell you all about " in comparison to the lyrics in the verses above it, this makes absolutely no sense. omar did say that when they were in the editing process that they sometimes take the original recording, where omar just makes up random lyrics and words that just flow and sounds good with cedrics music, and use that instead of the lyrics that omar intended to be in the song. it really helps explain why some parts just sound like he is just completely random and the words actually have no intended meaning, only an abstract image. this is why i love the mars volta so much, they actually make art out of music. and that is rare these days! |

uhhh song meaning? haha. i guess its just so simple its not even up for discussion? heres my interpretation.. well, when i read it, its just a simple love mess, a guy who keeps falsely falling for a woman, making the mistake of using his penis instead of his brain when hes making these decisions. shes just a girl(not a woman) who ends up bringing him down because of her constant partying. or.. its about someone beginning to deal with the effects of alcoholism. |
