Some versions of the lyrics seem to suggest someone being disheartened at their exclusion from a social circle, which makes me think that as well as a jab at 'punk' bands, it could be, at least in some forms, a jab at certain social circles. |

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but Laika was also the name of the first monkey sent into space if i remember modern history correctly (I probably don't), which, assuming the theme of an older sibling or relative being sent away because of domestic violence or other bad behaiviour, fits very well. |

I also thought of people hiding in a church during an air raid or something, but the line "Just me and the Town Mayor" made me wonder, perhaps "Then the troops rush in" is just a metaphor? |

A lot of Arcade Fire songs seem to be on the topic of car wrecks, and of a freind/relative surviving or living with the loss of what's happened. Cold Wind springs to mind. |
