Bowie seems to confirm this interpretation with his 1980 follow up to "Space Oddity", "Ashes to Ashes", where Ground control eventually receives a message from Major Tom: "I'm happy, hope you're happy too". Drug users, specifically those who experiment with hallucinogens, find the song took on new meaning following Bowie's battle with drugs in the 1970s. In "Ashes to Ashes", Major Tom's communication failure could be reinterpreted as losing human contact due to drugs. Space Oddity is often interpreted as "a bad trip". At the start of the song Major Tom takes pills ("take your protein pills and put your helmet on"), those pills have their effect ("and I'm floating in a most peculiar way / and the stars look very different today") but eventually Major Tom fails to come out of his trip. i found this online. if you have ever done acid, you can completely understand how david bowie came up with these lyrics. |

hehe. has anyone ever noticed that when he is singing this song and right after he says what kind of magic spell to use, david bowie looks right at the camera and plugs one nostril and moves his head like he's snorting a line?? and!! when sara is using her lipstick to mark the way she had been going and the little creature is changing them, if you listen closely he mumbles and says your brother is a fucking faggot. jw if anyone has realized that. kindof in response to eric3eb. you could be on the right track. i too, had sleep paralysis. it scary shit, but overall normal. the first time it happened to me i was sooo scared. my orginal state of mind came back before i could move my body or my eyes. i remember trying to move or getting my bf to shake me to fully wake me up, but i couldn't move. it's just a really scary experience, cause you don't know what to do. it seems like your stuck that way for minutes when in reality it is only seconds. i talked to my psychology professor about this and it is normal. only a select number of people have ever experienced this but anyone can get sleep paralysis. usually the causes are irregular sleep patterns. so now i will get to the point. drugs and alcohol causes irregular sleep patters, which i'm sure Kevin did plenty of and obviously kept him awake for long periods of time. maybe the sleep paralysis really freaked him out and thats why he was having nightmares, who knows? |

this is one of my favorite songs of all time!! this song has nothing to with a relationship-it's about rolling on extacy. this is my theme song while i'm rolling and if you ever have then you know exactly what i'm talking about. "i know this will be something i remember in my head, something i remember"-rolling why do you tell me only things i want to hear, why don't you tell me this could just disapper.-on "e" your going to like everything-it's a crazy fun drug. tracking tresure down-tracking drugs down. but over all this lady is probably rolling with a guy that she has feelings for and he's rolling to and telling her everything she wants to hear, but in reality when they come down, he doesn't feel the same way. hence the part-"you tell me of pirate ships and fairytales, you have me wishing that everything was real." can't be naive-afterall it is a techno/house/trance song. lol. i remember i was in 7th grade and i was in love with this song. i wrote out all the lyrics and would sing it all the time. i showed my dad all proud and shit and he was like "do you know how much bad stuff there saying in here??" now i def. know. i loved this song then and i love it even more now. -there are three diff. drug references like some commented before. 1. Obviously crystal meth 2. "and then i bumped up-took the hit that i was giving, smoking green:) 3.we tripped on the urge to feel alive-either talking about shrooms or hits of acid. great lyrical song. |
