Jack's Mannequin – Last Straw Lyrics 18 years ago
"Sometimes it's all that I can do
When I think about the president
How did he become the president?"

Obviously, he is still befuddled as everyone else is, how did 'Bush' become the president, again?

"And there are some things I'll never understand
Why a country needs a god and a woman needs a man"

When he states this, there are some things he'll never understand, "Why a country needs a God?. He reflects back to "how did 'he' (Bush) become the president? "Why a country needs a God" reflects how Bush won the election, with claiming to be 'a right-wing born-again Christian, who is pro-life, and and a servant of 'God'.... But in retrospect, a country that "needs a God", voted for a pseudo-Christian, because they thought they were being moral with voting for someone who is a Christian and 'pro-life'. What these people failed to realize is that even know they voted for pro-life Bush ("Why a country needs a God?"), he has no authority over the abortion law. But is responsible for a War that has claimed over a hundred thousand innocent lives (Americans and Iraqis). So, back to the question why he is so befuddled.
"Sometimes it's all that I can do
When I think about the president
How did he become the president?"

"Why a country needs a God?"
I believe in God with all my heart, but to vote a pseudo-Christian to be the president, that is the question, "Some things I'll never understand", that is the Last Straw

Barenaked Ladies – Maybe You're Right Lyrics 18 years ago
Song discusses the Bush Adminstration's policy and design on how they went to war. "It was often talked about, it was often raised, but nothing was ever done about it" When Bush went to war, it was debated and talked about it, but nobody really did anything to STOP it. "It was oversimplified". We thought when we invaded Iraq that we would be greeted as Liberators and our democracy would have a positive effect on Iraq, and we would be out of the war in a matter of months. This was obviously false, as the song reflects this. "There was a time when a crime was a crime. But now I think I'm losing my mind". It was an obvious 'crime' for Bush to lead this country into War. There was a time when this would be a crime, ( to indirectly be responsible for the thousands of American soldiers killed in Iraq). "But now I think I'm losing my mind" "Shall I take back everything I ever said, and live my whole life in silence instead". All this talk about he war, has gotten us no where. Four years into the war, we are still no where. I think he means, that even if he speaks out against the war, it will have no effect. "Shall I take back, all my attacks, all my accusations, all my 'mistrust'". Maybe you're right, but I don't think so.
