I know I'm reading my own life into the lines, but for me there's a hint of a mental disturbance of some sort - the kind that is due to the past, whether that be past relationships or the way the past makes the present what it is. I feel a sense of foreboding when I listen to it as my boyfriend is going through a lot which means I have to be the 'patient' and 'balanced' one, whilst at the same time he's pushing me away because he's telling me to 'wreck it all... etc'. I feel like he's the love of my life, so if it were to end, I suppose I would see it as a waste because I thought words like 'always' and 'forever' meant something, whilst he would probably see it as a good experience, and although painful, he would be able to move on. At the end, these can be seen as the kind of questions you think about after the end of a relationships or when there is the threat of the end... it's a horrible thought to think of who will love your boyfriend and you want to think only you can love them in the way you do, and nobody will 'fight' as hard to keep the relationship going... and there is the fear that you will be 'left behind' alone in the past, clinging on to the love you thought was going to last forever. |

I agree with all these interpretations, very interesting. I think the elephant is like an elephant in the room... that something in the past relationship that was always the problem they would argue about or ignore and just have sex. Them ignoring the problems is what kept them going as long as they did. |

Yeah, first time I heard this it was like they were talking about me and my ex-boyfriend (but more at the time when we were actually together). He liked someone of that name and so it resulted in our break-up twice. I was freaked out but we're still mates and we had a laugh about the weirdness of it. If I had heard it at the time of all the hurt, i would have probably listened to it way more as to wallow in my saddness haha. the bubble burst alright. |

skank is actually sket, as someone pointed out... and it's London slang, not just north London, get with it lol.
And as for 'getting pressed'... obviously it is pressed because that's what the news gets... hence the simile... pressed, in the second meaning, I guess means some sort of exposure, referring to gossip about the night, or even a word to describe the sexual act itself. |

the lyrics are impressive, more impressive than have given the band credit for. I agree that it's about a guy in a relationship where he begins not to care because of his girlfriend's obsession with things he isn't interested in. I like the kind of double meaning that is connected with the education system and what intelligence actually is. |

I'd hope it wouldn't be about racism! If so it wouldn't be making any kind of statement about it... it would just be racist.
I agree that it's about the ACTUAL Lane. Also in demo I have it says something like "but the bed...this is the bed that you must lay" rather than about men, but maybe that's a different version.
The the bit about the "fella I knew" I first thought could be about himself, how he's not really a person, because of the drugs... but I guess a more obvious meaning would be that this is a reference to the drug dealer. |

Again, to put my personal interpreation to this... I see the guy as like my ex who was missing his friend who went to uni because he actually had feelings for her, and there was nothing I could do... and nothing I can do now... to stop the pain he feels.
The first verse is wanting to deny the truth behind his sad eyes.
The next part is trying to work through it, and doing normal things but it still not being good enough.
Then there is the acceptance that nothing she can do is good enough because he has to make himself feel better alone. 'Keep my love as light as a feather' - trying to just be there as a friend. 'Keep my heart breaking in the dark' - not showing him, or others, how much she is hurting over the impossible situation too. 'Come and spend the night... ' - just wanting things to go back to how they were before.
In turn, she forgets about her own hurt, focussing on him. |

It's a song about loss. It reminds me of my ex-boyfriend, especially

He used to smoke and although he avoided it around me or when he was seeing me, I could still taste it sometimes. Although it was a horrible taste, now I will never kiss him again I miss it and it sounds wierd but sometimes when I'm lonely, sad or just thinking of memories, I imagine him holding me... a saddness and a comfort together.
It's also about acceptance, and understanding that it's just "the way it is". It's a really soothing and comforting song. |

Yeah, cos you really tried to find meaning... I guess it's about how everything is so dramatized in the US. It could perhaps be about his brother moving away, or even about him fighting in the war. "Getchoo" is a bit like the infamous "Gotcha" headline from the Falklands war when 2.5 thousand Argentinas were killed. The whole 'space cadet' thing could be about how so many people are ignorant and don't think about their actions. Obviously I'm totally bullshitting but it's better than saying it has 'no meaning you can see.' |

Everyone has their own take on songs, which is what this website is for. I really like the Lady of Shalott interpretation... the music goes with this idea as well.
It reminds me of myself, which is perhaps why I interpret it the way I do. I see it as ubrequited love where the girl does have a lot to be happy about, but she can't make her life perfect by getting the man she is in love with the love her back. This may be seen as selfish or greedy at first, but it's to do with the kind of person she is; which I see as simliar to myself. She feels the world owes her happiness and she can't be complete without true love. My ex boyfriend said to me "I would only be staying with you to make you happy", as he was trying to get over his friend (who he had feelings for and had moved away) it mean loving me was impossible. The only way for her to feel happy is to do other things, such as following her dreams or talking about the situation... which may be ways of drawing attention to herself thus making her seem as though she wasn't really "ruined" but that the heartbreak had lead her to be more "interesting". As I write poetry, I see myself do this after break-ups in hope to get to my dream of success... therefore the more my heart is broken, the more I can write... thus being more "interesting?"
The part about him seeing the sky in his eyes I think means that he wasn't able to see her properly because of his own problems.
I like the doll interpretation by the person who seems to insist it is the true meaning... but if it was, I'm sure they would only be motifs for the metaphor of the meaning that is alluding to real life!
I by no means believe I am correct in this interpretation, it's just how I like to see it so I can personally idenify with it more. |

It just came randomly on my itunes and it make me think of the situation I'm in at the moment... well everthing relates back to it right now! My boyfriend is trying to get over this girl he likes and although I'm trying to be patient and civil to this girl as well, this song kind of expresses how I really feel. She's so damn perfect and nice that it just seems fake. I feel like I'm genuinely nice but get pissed off at the right times, but she's just smiling and "nice" to wahetever. I've never fitted in and she's one of those head-girl, choir singing, dancer, cheer-leaders pretending that whenever she's cut there isn't someone there to give her a plaster. She dresses up as Kate Nash in a dress she made and dances in her room while her family think she's "insane". I used to think she was actually similar to me and we had stuff in common that could make things ok between us all, but now I'm getting susipcious and just think she's fake. That's the kind of girl this song is about. Sorry for my pathetic jealousy. I would never want to be her, I just wish my boyfriend could forget about her because she's not worth it, and realise how he's taking me for granted. |
