Dream Theater – Surrounded Lyrics 18 years ago
I absolutely love this song. Now this may sound a bit silly, but some of the lyrics remind me of things involved in summer vacation. You might have to think outside the box, but here are some examples:

"Morning comes too early and nighttime falls too late
And sometimes all I want to do is wait
The shadow I've been hiding in has fled from me today"

- If you stay up really late, like into the early hours of the morning, but don't want to go to sleep, you may feel like "Morning comes too early", plus if a summer vacation day is boring, you may feel like you're waiting to stay up late, hence "and nighttime falls too late".
As for "and sometimes all I want to do is wait", may signal being ready for summer break to be over. "The shadow I've been hiding in has fled from me today" may be a metaphor of being with your friends, but they seem to "flee" from you because of the time off.

"I know it's easier to walk away than look it in the eye
But I will raise a shelter to the sky"

- You realize that you'll have to leave your friends, so you ignore that fact rather than accept it. But then you remain strong even though it's something tough to do.

"She was dancing through the night above his bed"
- The guy in the story is dreaming of dancing with a girl, possibly at a school dance.

Of course, those are just things that stuck out to me. Remember, the song can mean anything that the listener wants it to mean. Thanks for the time and peace. BTW, Dream Theater rocks!

Anthrax – Madhouse Lyrics 18 years ago
This is an awesome song and Joey's vocals suit the song perfectly. The lyrics are pretty straightforward, and I think you are all correct.

One thing, though...did anybody notice that the guitar riff during the verses sounds like the guitar riff in the bridge of the Judas Priest song, "Breaking The Law"? Who sees the similarity? Anyway, once again, great song!

Alice in Chains – Man In The Box Lyrics 18 years ago
What It Means To Me:
For some reason, I feel as though the song has to do with isolation. The line "I'm the man in the box", may be a metaphor for escaping from all the trouble of the outside world, just like something in a box is shut out from things outside it.
The line "Feed my eyes, can you sew them shut?", may be like going to somebody close to you that takes all your pain away and gives you good feelings, hence "Feed my eyes". That person may also make you forget about your problems, "Can you sew them shut?".
"I'm the dog who gets beat", may mean the person in need of being isolated is somebody that everyone else ranks on just because that person isn't bitter.
As for the whole "Jesus Christ, deny your maker/ He who tries will be wasted", may not necessarily be anti-religious, it might be saying that those who deny God will "be wasted".

The Song Itself:
This song rocks! I love the guitar riff and talk box combo, Layne sounds great and Jerry Cantrell's guitar solo is out of this world! Does anybody seem to think this song sounds kind of like a '90s-styled Jimi Hendrix song, because I really feel his spirit in this song! Actually, that makes sense considering the fact that I read that Hendrix was one of Jerry Cantrell's biggest influences.

Anyway, the idea of isolation is just something I got out of the song, but I'm really impressed with all the different meanings people have been saying! Hope this helps, peace!

DragonForce – Fields of Despair Lyrics 18 years ago
While the idea of an escaped enemy makes a lot of sense, there might be some more meaning to it. When I listened closely to the lyrics, and then read them, the idea of somebody very close to you going far away may give some meaning. I know that's not typically what a Dragonforce song would be about, but hear me out.

"Can you feel the pain inside sometimes in my mind?" and "In the land of loneliness" - may represent the feeling of having someone you love being far away.

"Fly far away don't let the world pass you by.
Live for the day when we must stand and survive.
Now we face the judgment day our souls will feel the pain. Hear the screams of my world through the rain." - the narrator knows that the person he feels very close to has to go away and not let good things pass them by, but they must feel united even if they may feel hurt that they are separated, and hope to still be able to communicate.

"Silent fields of despair, my tears in the rain. Pain in my heart bleeding through. One day we'll be back for one moment in time, endlessly searching for you." - may signify the storyteller is in the fields where he used to spend a lot of time with the person he is talking about, but now that they're gone, he feels sad over that.

"Who can cure my emptiness inside for this time?" - the narrator has a broken heart.

"Time after time our souls divided on we cry" - the narrator and the person of whom he's speaking of both mourn at being apart.

It's just a thought. I mean, it's not like exactly a power-metal Romeo and Juliet, or even a five-minute "Stairway To Heaven", but I just wanted to put my two cents in. Hope this comment helps, and by the way, Dragonforce rocks!

Deep Purple – Burn Lyrics 18 years ago
Definitely one of Deep Purple's best songs, if not THE best. Coverdale gives an amazing vocal performance, Hughes' bass-work comes out strong, Jon Lord has a wicked Hammond solo, Ian Paice is one of the most outrageous drummers ever, and Blackmore delivers a classic riff and one of the speediest solos of their time. All packed into a six-minute rocker. Ahhh...classic, man!
