| I had no idea what I was listening to when I was listening to this album. That's not true. I didn't understand the context or accept the harsh realities of human conduct. The line "Making weapons of peace for the defense of the bloodstains on our peaceful sidewalks." Let's unpack this. Sidewalks with bloodstains? Is it the blood of Native Americans or whatever country we've boomed like crazy? I don't know but it seems like we are no better that our enemies. Why make weapons at all? How dare we call them weapons of peace. The line "When our sherry glass is full". I recon that's the good pain. It's the enjoyment and pleasure built over blood stains. Perhaps it's a condemnation of the west or all of humanity. Or maybe that's just me. The missing line "There's a line we have to cross tonight". That is a call to action. For peace? @[vaguely:53733] I hear you. It DID feel like a real chance to rewrite everything, didn't it? That whole era- the fall of the wall, the end of the Cold War-it held so much raw hope. For a second, the world felt lighter like maybe the worst had passed and we could finally start building something better. And yeah.... looking around now, it hurts. The optimism of Wind of change feels like it belongs to a different country or species of human. Like we forgot how to believe in that kind of future. But I still think that moment mattered. It wasn't fake. It wasn't naive. It was real people trying. And the spark-however small- It can live on every time we remember it although sometimes I hear the incorrect lyric "the winds don't change"- If I try I can still remind myself that we DID want better and that wanting matters too. | Clearly, Lilly is a love interest! ....I think the song intentionally fools us into thinking that the relationship is real. When he says "I can hardly wait until I'm with her" it's how he's feeling, not something that is going to happen. When he says "love is in your eyes" feeling her love exactly how he wants it to be. It's all in his head. Lastly, when he says "and when I'm with her I feel fine" he feeling like she saves him just by being in his life. None of it is really happening. The hanging in the tree is slapstick. The writer is throwing us off the track of his sadness by disguising the unfortunate truth that they he is not as close to her as he would like to be. The unfortunate truth that he doesn't know if she even see's him. The terrible truth that he is having a fantasy that he doesn't really believe can ever be actualized. I think "someone else's boy quote is referring to a situation… It's describing the situation where a person has learned to put his own needs second to others. In that sense in every relationship he is in he does not belong to him self . Someone else's boy is a clever way of referring to the person whom doesn't belong to their self. His various parts are hanging in the air and need to swirled together for him to be one. The idea here that the narrator proposes that there is a girl just like him and this girl is able to have compassion for him and he will be able to have compassion for her. As their various pieces swirled together they can decipher each other's hearts and minds. |

I have no clue what this song is about because it's obviously very personal to the author. Could be about a person willing to get hurt or put themselves in harms way in order to get attention. and authors refutation that this person will get this attention they want is decidedly sharp and is probably causing friction in the relationship, which he is probably trying to avoid to keep the relationship moving. In my life there was a girl I loved who didn't quite "get me" and the way that I loved her, and I think that's that's going on here in this song, too. He is not reaching his love in the way he intends. |

I see this song as god seeking, at the same time an open acknowledgement of distance and flat out denial of god. I think comes from a logical argument Why would god let me be in pain? A loving god wouldn't allow me to suffer, therefore there is no god. The song seeks god as a loving god: he likes to rock, loud guitars, and spiders from mars. Down here throwing stones: this is how he feels, and in turn what he believes...that he is down here suffering. That is the cause for the lack of connect with god, and the reason he tends to deny the existence of a loving god. |

I think it's about a relationship with a particular relationship that the singer experienced. It was probably a relationship where neither he nor other could withstand, understand, and sometimes both. When he says "my life to you," I think he is expressing a need or a desire to give what he didn't give in his, well, his life. It doesn't adress the issue of tolerance of this person. This is clear now. Now is for understanding, giving, and acceptence. He accepts this person. He needs to love them. "Just say the words you can have it now Any way that you want it now" this line...I think It means that, words hold, and words release. 'There are words holding them,' Figuratively, not literaly. The words mean 'talking'. Talking means 'the words'. Which words are they? One can only guess. It might not be specific words. The words might be a catalist. A catalyst for what? One can only guess. What I get out of the song is that the singer willingness to talk signals that something between the to will be different between them when they talk. This makes me wonder if they ever did talk....And if they did, have I listened to the song about it yet? lol |

Both Hands. You don't even have to look at something with one hand. It's possible, when you can use one hand to fiddle around and look in another dirrection. When you use both hands you need your eyes to coordinate your movement so that both hands may be in sync. This task, "enables or forces", "activates or directs" the mind to "look" at what is going on, visually.. That's my ultra-literal-interpretation...now for my my non-ultra literal-interpretation. I see this song as a active plea to get past the bull and closer to the heart/soul/mind/whatever...of another person. "oh no, don't close your eyes" could mean, don't start ignoring,suppressing,hidding from... fill in the blank. Let's be aware of what's going on, because We ArE SuFfering, hurting, damaging, limiting, stifiling, skerewing up, messing up... I feel a strong urgency when I hear "both hands". I'd like to call this song, "Wake the Fuck Up" or "Call to Arms". |

I think this song could be refering to a point in time where one has a dilema/quandry/unresolved-perplexed-thoughts. It's probably a mental situation that "wont solve it self". When the person gets to that point things "shift". Or they slide, rample, permutate, and yea. ...So don't geat any big ideas because It will "send you off the rails". yea. Perhaps it is becomming increasingly difficult for him to write personal songs because his mind is getting too inflated wih "big ideas" and "noise". I dont' know why he refers to his mind as dirty. My best clue that his thoughts seem, for him, to be peverse, and when he reflets on them in light of shifting elements in his consciousness they just don't...This is pure speculation but...they don't make him feel the way he is supposed to feel, bucause things are "fliped"... For me this song is kind of intellectual. You have two ideas...Hesitation and desolation. Desolation is ruin barrenness, sorrow grief woe and deprivation...yes. I am reminded of a jose gonzales song called remain that more concicely echos the semtiment of this song (I understand desolation)-and "I will stand up just the same and remain after everything has been washed away", is its simple refrain. Hesatation no...no more lies, no more seeking find release from freedom or "desolation" indirectly. Neways, lol, that's my intelectual interpretatioin of what seemes the intelectual song. It's a tune to wrap your mind around and keep it's course soul in your mind while you smooth out your own course psyche and crudely desolate heart. It's a lament for the soul. I keep this song in my ipod and listen to it and mine it when I long for renewed resolve and I need to "transform" myself. |
