| KT Tunstall – Suddenly I See Lyrics | 18 years ago |

The lyrics that give the most clues as to the meaning of this song are in the bridge: "And she's taller than most And she's looking at me I can see her eyes looking from a page in a magazine Oh she makes me feel like I could be a tower A big strong tower yeah She got the power to be The power to give The power to see" The song is about KT's idol Patti Smith (a feminist punk rocker). And Patti Smith is not a stereotypically "beautiful girl". By KT continuously calling Patti a "beautiful girl" she is saying that Patti is beautiful despite what she looks like. Notice how KT comments on Pattii's EYES looking at her from a page of a magazine...not her body. And Patti gives KT the inspiration to be a "big strong tower" not a sex symbol, and to have the power to "be", "give" and see" not to sexually attract people. As for the "this is WHAT I wanna be" - KT wants to be a singer and possibly also a role model/inspiration for other women, who feel beautiful and powerful regardless of what they look like. And finally, as for the whole lesbian angle, it's a nice thought but this song is way too joyous and celebratory for that. Think about it...if you realised you were attracted to a girl for the first time (an AHA moment) would you feel joyous and celebratory or would you be shit-scared? |

"I'm a sex-change And a damsel with no heroine" Thanks to trinity_tragedy for commenting on the above lyrics. However, I missed the bit in the lyrics that says "I don't feel like a 'sex-change' or a 'damsel' anymore since I've been banging Natalie" Huh?... |

| Paula Cole – I Am So Ordinary Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The lines "I am the one you will call when alone, I am the one who will give when she's gone" and "hoping you will love me back" makes me think more of "My Best Friend's Wedding" ie. it is about unrequited love, loves the guy but to him she is just a friend. | |

The key lyrics to the song are: "I saw two fall before they were ready to and I found no sense or gain to bear the cost comfort comes to those with faith in mysterious ways But for me faith don’t make up for what we lost" Two people died young, Josh couldn't see the point, people always say to "have faith in God's mysterious ways" when you can't understand why someone dies young, but Josh is still focussed on his loss and faith isn't enough to overcome this sense of loss. "But in the morning I can smell you on my pillow I need to know we won’t get wrung out in the wash I need to know there’s time for us I must believe there’s time for some of us" Even though "there won't be time for all of us" there is still a sense of hopefulness in this song...almost like Josh is pleading with fate to give him a chance to make the best of his life with his loved one. |
