Jack Johnson – Let It Be Sung Lyrics 18 years ago
I kind of think it's about being carefree... maybe a little about faith, too?

I don't know if he's a Christian... but he's defintely referring to them. "Godfearing people" are Christians.

"Walkin' without lanterns let a stone skip over thee"
Ever heard the one... 'Walk by faith and not by sight?'

This doesn't mean he's Christian, or that I'm saying that- I'm just saying that there is a definate reference to faith.

Faith in friends, family, God, what ever you want...

Jack Johnson – Sexy Plexi Lyrics 18 years ago
Sounds like a prostitute to me. Ha. But seriously... this "plexi" glass girl sounds fake. She pretends to do so many things, but she just... doesn't. She's a fake, fake, fake. Plexi glass is, afterall, a fake glass.

Kind of reminds me of most teenagers today. Many girls throw themselves away on love through sex and beauty through pain.

Jack Johnson – Inaudible Melodies Lyrics 18 years ago
I think he's talking about belief and all it's difficult little concepts. Humans are narrow minded... everything MUST be proved to them. Everything MUST have a reason for happening.

Let me take the simple line: "Solar powered plastic plants ".

It is whimsical, really, to think of such a thing, right? And not only that, but the thing is kind of... pointless. Why a fake plant when a real plant is out there? Because humans MUST prove the process of a plant to believe it. Humans sort of tear down their mental environment this way. I remember, when I was very young, I used to think the world was full of magic- like plantlife. But then I went to school and learned about science, which proved that, no, it wasn't magic. It was science. Humans make it that way. They trap their faith into mindless belief in their own rules.

Another line, I find interesting: "Pretty pictures of things we ate."
Isn't it true that we buy that particular meal at the cafe because of it's pretty picture? That's what advertising is all about, right? But pictures are just another belief.

Yeah. I'll stop now. It's all in the song though. And I know it's been said before... but I just wanted to put my thought in.

Jack Johnson rules!

Fall Out Boy – Sugar, We're Goin Down Lyrics 19 years ago
"Am I more than you bargained for yet?"
This guy is trying way to hard to be someone he just isn't. He is a problem, or possibly, he sees himself as a problem and he's anxious about the girl's feelings toward him. He knows that someone like that just couldn't like him.

"I’ve been dying to tell you anything you want to hear"
He wants to tell her anything she wants. He has given himself up for her.

"Cause that’s just who I am this week"
Might signify a change in mood or feeling?

"Lie in the grass next to the mausoleum"
Foreshadows all of the gun and bullet lines- death, maybe a dying relationship?

"I’m just a notch in your bedpost"
I am nothing to you.

"But you're just a line in a song"
Possibly said sarcastically? You are nothing too? Or maybe, he is saying that they are both nothings to anyone, meaning they are something to each other?

"Drop a heart, break a name"
Drop a heart could be talking about love in itself- drop your love and love me. Break a name... reminds me of Romeo and Juliet- If Romeo were not a Montague (enemy family of Juliet's) he could court her... Juliet says aloud how she wishes he would drop his name for her, nolonger be a Montague and she nolonger be a Capulet. So maybe this is a symbol for her, thinking she is better than him- so much better that he is not worthy to date her?

"We’re always sleeping in, sleeping for the wrong team"
I really have no clue... so a shot in the dark it is! I think this might be symbolism for living in the wrong spot- just like how I said earlier about Romeo and Juliet- Your in with your family, I'm in with mine = the wrong team?

"We’re going down, down in an earlier round
And Sugar, we’re going down swinging"
People seem to think this song is about sex. Indeed, there are some similar themes, but they are not necessarily so. I think that by 'we are going down, down in an earlier round' he is saying that their chances at a relationship, or even their early relationship, is already going down.

"I’ll be your number one with a bullet
A loaded god complex, cock it and pull it"
I'll take your bullets for you first. 'A loaded god complex' could either be talking about the guy who believes he is strong enough for her, or it could be the one with the gun (or symbol gun) trying to play God by killing? The main character seems the cocky, god complex one, however in saying 'cock it and pull it'- asking to be shot.

"Is this more than you bargained for yet?"
Maybe he has become a problem- his state sounds worse and worse through out the song.

"Oh, don't mind me, I'm watching you two from the closet
Wishing to be the friction in your jeans"
He's just watching her relationship thrive, wishing he was that guy.

"Isn’t it messed up how I’m just dying to be him?"
He wants to be her lover, even if it means abandoning himself. Once again, the song introduces the idea of trying to be someone you are not.

I"’m just a notch in your bedpost
But you're just a line in a song"
Here, I feel the mood change- I'm no one to you, so you're no one to me. Maybe she really is, but he seems a little more sarcastic and angry- angry enough to say things he doesn't mean.

"Drop a heart, break a name
We’re always sleeping in, sleeping for the wrong team"
I feel the mood change AGAIN- Maybe he means, by the 'sleeping in' part, that they BOTH have wrong ideas.

...

So yeah. That's what I think it's about... Being someone you aren't for people who just don't care about you. Don't change yourself for another; find someone who fits you.

By the way, the music video for this seems to add more sense to the song. For those who have seen it, you probably think I'm nuts- but just think about it all as a metaphor. It makes sense- deer horns and all.
