Like all great songs, this one can be interpreted in many ways, each of which contributes to the depth and significance of the ultimate message of the song. My take is religious, although that can be easily be taken as romantic, in a sense. The first lines can be interpreted as a man longing for woman's attention, but one may also interpret it as a message from God, longing for "our" attention. the first 2 lines of the 2nd paragraph portray the need for God's comfort and love, while the next lines of the chorus can be seen as God Himself speaking. "I will comfort you, I will save you..." the lines that follow speak for themselves. Depending on what train of thought you wish to follow, be it that of a man "believing" in a girl or of God bestowing unwavering faith and love to His people, Either works, in my opinion. The last lines are the most powerful and also the simplest. Again, it can be read and understood as a man loving a woman "no matter who they are" or "who they used to be". Others may interpret it as God saying the same thing for all who choose to believe. Each promise a reverberating message of the Bible. In any case, though, i love this song. It speaks mounds of truths to all who are willing to listen carefully. I first heard it from the "Bee Season" trailer, (which also happened to be a very good movie). |

Is it just me, or does the line "I want you to know that I can’t let you go" sound more like "I can" instead or "can't"? for some reason it makes more sense to me that way. |
