On Storytellers Billy mentioned that he wrote the lyrics in 10 minutes, a clue-in that they don't really have particular meaning..still it's their most listened-to song. This song reminds me of when I was a kid. I used to listen to it on road trips up the east coast when I was about 8 or 9. My musical interests bloomed very early and I'm grateful! Bring back James and D'Arcy! |

| Jeff Buckley – So Real Lyrics

Try listening to this song IN your sleep. I do it all the time, taking naps or whatever. Let Jeff Buckley loop on low volume in your room. You will have crazy dreams, and sometimes you'll hear the song in your dream and stop and say, "I know..this song." Try it!
Anyway, the second chorus of this song strikes me every time, for some reason it sounds even better than the first and still better than the rest of the choruses. I always rewind those 10 seconds at least twice just to listen to the guitar.
That Surreal idea is crazy, I never thought about it like that. It makes a lot of sense, like the lyrics have no answer - all the more timeless in my opinion. |

This sounds to me like a night of drinking and having a good time. Sometimes you find yourself walking around by yourself or with some other person you never expected to spend such a time with. You explore and view things in a hazy perspective, but on the contrary you remember it well. Very uplifting song. |

I love the verses in this song. They hold this sense of inevitability, and the lyrics reflect that as well. "I don't take steps/things for granted." "Be still my body, my best friend - The past is not a material thing." Go with it but be aware that you live once, can't change things past, etc. The inevitability of moving through life. The Florida bit makes me laugh because I live there :P |

The first time I heard this song I told myself I didn't enjoy it as much as the rest of IDR, but I heard it a second time and said.."What the hell was I thinking?" When that riff comes in and he yells I AM SPORADIC MOVEMENT..oh man..Best part of any CKY song there is. So powerful. |

| Jeff Buckley – Strange Fruit (Billie Holiday cover) Lyrics

Most of you already know this is a Billie Holiday cover. The song is representative of the hostile tension between whites and blacks into the early twentieth century. Look up the lyrics and you will find descriptions of a hanging(s). "Bulging eyes, twisted mouth." "Black bodies swinging from the Poplar tree."
It's an eye-opening song, even in this day and age. It certainly struck an audience in the midst of heated tension at the root of American segregation. The lyrics would be otherwise "shocking and risque," however the truth that the song is speaking for is just that. This is my favorite live song from Jeff. |

I don't have the CD lyrics booklet with me, but is it "heroine" or "heroin" mentioned?
I'm thinking that "Addict with no heroine" as in a girl, someone who can save him/the male subject of this song might relate to relationships and the hardships that come with them. "Lessons learnt" really stand out to me because I've always been told after relationships, "Learn from it."
I think that "Burn my knees" as well as "Won't you Stop my pain" also apply to my theory. Sometimes people feel like they need to be in a relationship so that they can feel balanced and stable, but as a consequence it can make things worse. I don't know, it's just a thought. Very defining song. This album is by far my favorite. |
