You're all wrong! the beginning says it all... we have survived to turn on the history channel, and an "esteemed panel" tells us why we're alive. it's about the flow of information and how our so called "authorities" dump all this sludge they call knowledge on us, which is actually ignorance, through our tv sets to make us docile and lame (plasticities is also about that, molding people into better robots to fight wars over natural resources perhaps). everyone knows we're alive because a sperm and egg collided! and you should've died? ehh, i think people being born is pretty mundane, its been happening for quite a while now. so the answers we get from any "authority" is rubbish because they know just as much, or as little, as we happen to know. we just ascribe certain power to them because they're smart, excellent marketers of ideas and sludge! lots of bird's writing deals with the flow of information and how tons of people have been used like a rich kids' toys. ie. in iraq perhaps. and all the drug imagery could be close, listening to other people can send you into a mad spiral where you have no clue what the hell you are doing in this crazy floating orb. so i think its about challenging authority mainly, getting off your ass before they get to you |

in his clever way, i think this is andrews way of saying opposite day is the kind of reality we're in. it could be a lot better and doesn't make sense at all, but here we are. and that part at the end is bird saying, im trying to help you find the answers to the deepest questions in life, but im not going to give them away. he's kind of like an angel... but more like a conduit. he's found enlightenment and now he's trying to help us get there ourselves (and great artists like andrew bird are instrumental in enriching our boring lives). |
