| The Maccabees – All In Your Rows Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
reckon this song is slating the catholic church "So here's your church and here's your steeple And you're locking your doors to keep in all the people" - kind of suggests that theyre quite oppressive and dogmatic, kind of contradicting the idea of being free in Christ "You learn right from wrong Then you write the book yourself Right the wrongs you know" - could be about the catechism, why write it when we already have the Bible; is it right to change the word of God so we can "right the wrongs you know", i.e justify our own wrongs anyone agree? |

| The Format – Dog Problems Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
when i first heard this song, i thought to myself: 'this could be my least favourite song on the cd', simply because of the lines: can you hear me? are you listening? this is the sound of my heart breaking and i hope it's entertaining cause for me it's a bitch was it worth it when you slept with him? it's so emo-ish and it just doesn't sound like the format that i know an love. so i think maybe, that part could kinda be mocking the whole melodramatic fandango? the format often put across a point that reminds me why i love them so, and this could be another to add to the list. 'boys with swooping haircuts taking pictures of themselves' kind of supports my theory, that the whole drama queen thang like YOU BROKE MY HEART, ARE YOU SATISFIED is a piss-take of dudes who think theyre all deep and emotional because theyve loved and lost. if i'm wrong, i go back to what i said before: i don't like this song. i hope the format are a tad more abstract than your average emotional hardcores. |

| The View – Same Jeans Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I've had the same jeans on for four days now I'm gonna go to a disco in the middle of the town Everybody's dressing up I'm dressing down i believe this part is about how he's the same guy that he was before the view became big, and doesn't think he has to make an effort in his appearance like other celebrities. Life's one big circle And it doesn't end When it ends Will you still be my friend? i originally thought that it was "life's one big circle and it does end", but hey ho. i think he's explaining how fame doesn't always last forever, and he's questioning the loyalty of his new 'mates' who he has earnt just by being famous. I'm not making a fool of myself Oh tell me I'm not making a fool of myself and now he's questioning himself. do the public WANT him to become something he's not and is he making a tit out of himself by just being.. himsel? So When you look in the mirror Reflecting back at you someone that you don't know Oh That's just made your head spin around So get yourself together Get your feet back on the ground talking about how fame has made him feel like he's in the wrong skin "reflecting back.." and that life is so crazy he feels like his head is spinning round. he knows he's the same person really and just wants to get back to reality. I take my hats off to the busker man When they drown all the sorrows singing songs Now everything has worked out to plan But believe me it started as long as it can now he's expressing how respectful he is of the musicians who don't need fame to enjoy music. it doesn't matter that the busker guy isn't living it up; he's got his music. My minds not perfect but it's sincere You'd be amazed at what you can achieve in a year And you try so hard But your hearts on a switch And I know you try so hard But your hearts on a switch here i think he's saying that it's amazing that he's got so far in such a short amount of time. he's tried really hard, but it could all end abruptly and it could dampen his love for music if it did. don't know if everything i've said is exactly what the songwriter intended for it to mean, but the song is gurrd. i try not to listen to radio stations; they do overplay the song like you said indiechick89, but i love the view they're coool. |

and triple07, i hope you're being sarcastic. it must have taken a real genius to write "hey, hey, you, you, i don't like you're girlfriend" |

| Joanna Newsom – Cassiopeia Lyrics | 19 years ago |

is it about a really bizarre dream? it starts with her lying in her bed and drifting off into slumber it's very abstract. and her voice scares me a little. |

jeeeez avril what have you done she sounds like a stalker! and a psycho: "I don't wanna hear you say her name ever again" calm down, mate. and what is her beef with this girlfriend? av, you should really give us a bit more than "she's like so whatever" and what is with the video. yeah, classy, shoving the poor guy into a toilet cubicle and uh, following him and his girlfriend around everwhere they go. lol avril has seen much brighter days than this |

| Lucky Jim – You're Lovely To Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
i first heard this song on the kingsmill advert and at first it didn't strike me at all, but one day i listened closer and decided that i totally loved it and had to download it =) basically, he's singing about this really abstract girl, who, to him, is 'lovely'. i'm guessing there are elements of eros in his love for her from the "You keep me from sleeping" and "our love making" and "There's honey and sap in the couch of your lap". i don't know if their relationship is completely conventional or not because of his mentioning "but i can't make you mine" but he loves and desires her, and when they're together (and drunk) he feels they are made for each other: "And I'll see you tonight in a local bar We'll be wed before dawn and by morning We're one and the same" |
