Hey, I agree with you all and I reckon this song is actually written by Corey about himself and how he feels about Slipknot. There was loads of uncertainty leading up to them all getting together to create the new album, partly because Corey was having some success with Stone Sour and maybe the other members of Slipknot felt that things were coming to an end? It just seems to be from Corey's point of view. It put a smile on my face but got me thinking..........is this the beginning or the end? |

Yeah it's about self-pity and people who weigh people down with their problems - "The sound of your own voice soothes you", "The empty can rattles the most". There have been more in-depth descriptions for the lyrics but I always hear this and think that it's just about people who like to whinge. Awesome song though. |

It's a great song about a very difficult subject in child abuse. It has a very clever use of words in the verses. The line "too wet to come in from the rain" is almost like saying the damage is done now, you should just accept what's going on. |

I loved this 'piece' from the first time I heard it. Very unexpected at the end of the album. I kinda agree that there's a random element to it, just a collection of things he's written down over time. But as I look at the lyrics I think it follows this path: Drugs or alcohol abuse. Working at something you hate, aiming for false targets. Religion. Not sure about the 'Say you're me' part lol. Politics & Government, the way we elect politicians, but ultimately have no say in what they do. Then the end questions humanity and existence, perhaps just saying we're all going nowhere. |

The feeling of total powerlessness. But of course you will get over it and move on ('Could it be worse'/'If you never try, you'll never know what you're worth') On the other hand there's a bit of a contradiction for me, cos when I hear this song I often wonder if there was anything I could have done to make things work out rather then letting a relationship fall apart, at the same time as thinking 'just move on'. I can't win! |

'You cannot kill what you did not create'. Before Vol. 3 was released there were numerous rumours about Slipknot breaking up, and more to the point, people actually wanting them to break up and fail. I see that line in particular as a big fuck you to all the haters. |

I've read on a few other sites and this one about how the lyrics relate to Corey's life on tour, with Slipknot and Stone Sour, and how he just wants to be back home. If you've seen interviews with him and some of the other members of Slipknot about the long periods away from home you can see what he means. I'm really glad to see how some ppl on her have commented on this song having a military/soldier connection, 'im following suit and directions i crawl up inside for protection im told what to do and i dont know why' really hints at the confusion surrounding the recent Iraq conflict. Amazing song and never fails to give me goosebumps when I listen to it. |

The first time I heard this song I immediately thought it was about the break up of a relationship. The first verse and chorus in particular relate exactly to a break up I experienced, so as I was listening to the song I just completely stopped everything and listened in awe to it. It was like this song was written about what had happened to me. I'm talking EXACTLY what happened. Having read the comments on this page it makes more sense that the song is actually about drug addiction etc, but I suppose a mark of a good song and good lyrics is that every listener can take something personal from it, irrespective of the true meaning. Beautiful song. |
