America – Ventura Highway Lyrics 18 years ago
The purple rain thing is def a "restless feeling to travel or get away"" it is what the song is all about really. Also very common theme for that time. 1972

Aligator Lizards are not cloud formations but a very common type of Lizzard in the Area. I happen to live here just off Ventura Highway now called Ventura Freeway.
In the spring The Aligator lizzards and well probably all lizzards put off a strong musky smell and you can smell it everywhere.
You have to know the smell to really get it. You probably would'nt recognise it unless you handled them as a kid.
Any way it reminds me of spring time and I think thats what he is referring to.

I loved this song since I first heard it. I also hated Janet Jacksons version of it several years back, but now it has kinda grown on me a little. The words are all different but the music is the same.

Eagles – New Kid In Town Lyrics 18 years ago
This song was about the Eagles realizing that fame is fleeting and tried to relate it to a love relationship. The "she " refers to the fickle fan.
With this album the Eagles made a large shift away from the Country Western sound that was waining at that time.
I think Burce Springstein wasa clear sign to them that "they will never forget you till someboy new comes allong"
And I think it was fitting that New Kid in Town was the only song on the Album with that Country sound to it.

Elton John – Bennie And The Jets Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is certainly about drugs. i though everyon knew that.
The rock group "bennie and the jets" is a metaphor for Drugs.
Bennies are downers and Jets are uppers . Common terms for those drugs comnly used by muscians esp at that time.
One to bring you up the other to bring you back down.
Candy and Ronnie are so "spaced out"
It's all about the drug scene I think.

Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics 18 years ago
I always thought that "she lit up a candle and showed me the way" refered directly to the way heroin was primarily used in the 70s.

Colitas is a drug popular in the early 60s

And "they stab it with their steely knives" refers to how coke is cut with a razor blade and made into powder.

This song is definatly about the draw the thriss and then the ultimatedownfall path that drugs will lead you down

Yes – It Can Happen Lyrics 18 years ago
I loved this song , but never knew what it was about.
A friend told me it was a warning for AIDS. and the risk of unprotected sex. He told me they gave out condoms at a concert during this song in 1983.
Since this song came out just around the time Aids was hitting the news maybe its a possibilty.

Jesus Jones – Right Here, Right Now Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about living in the 1980s when it was written, where everyone talked about the "60's revolution that had already passed us all by.

It is about right here right now intesad of living in the past for a revolution that was long over. And how everyone talked about how great the music was in teh 60s and 70s. He wanted everyone to know that current music was where it was all about.

I saw Jesus Jones interviewed about this song 15 years ago and that pretty much summed up what he had to say bout it.

Elton John – Levon Lyrics 18 years ago
Ok here is my take. I am not a religeous person but i think used names he knew, but this song is about
Jesus Christ and possibly the second comming.
It always seemed like that to me
"bears his war wound like a crown" crown of thorns?
"he called his child Jesus, becuase he likes name" Well he should since it was his name once too. but I think Jesus is a metaphor for his children (us)
"sends him to the finest school in town" He has given us a superior education"
"levon likes his money..." I think this line refers to how we think of him now, Someone who collects lots of money through churches. What woud he do with it, well count it of course.

"He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day" This is how Jesus Christ was born Poor and Joseph was just gods pawn.

"when the NY Times said God is dead and the wars began" I think this refers to the end times.
"Alvin Tustigs has a son today" Alvin which is a real name but is a metaphor for Christians who have a son today because the end is comming.
"and he shall be Levon" self explanitory "and he shall be a good man" "in tradtiton with the family plan"

"levon sells cartoon baloons in town" Refers to wacko religeous cartoon charecters that sell his religeon.

"And Jesus he wasnt to go to Venus ,leave levon far behind"
Since Jesus is a metaphor for us ( his children ) We have gotten away from him and we want to sail away and leave god far behind while god slowly dies. Because without faith god has no meaning.
