They Might Be Giants – Birdhouse in Your Soul Lyrics 18 years ago
It's been said time and again, but honestly, I can't see how the thought of god or whatnot can be crammed into all the different pieces of the song. If the song did have a full blown meaning of truth in spirituality, you'd think it would be a common theme throughout.

Then again, if you ignore certain passages and put more emphasis on others, you can make the song about -anything-. Look, it mentions filibuster! It must be talking about military adventures, vigilant ones at that!

Come now, you have to take the entire song into concideration when talking about it.

All that being said, dmesq, thank you for offering that bit about Plato, that does give something to think about on certain passages that so many people seem to credit to Jesus or what have you. And concidering how they had dug back far enough to mention Jason and the Argonauts, why not throw plato in there?

Especially concidering that for all the screwed up randomness in the song, it does seem to have a common theme of friendship, self worth and memory, At least to me it illudes to a cocky little nightlight who's been there some time and shines his "knowlege" (what he remembers from his electrical well) on any who pass.

Now I'm all geared up to go poke around Greek Myths and Plato. Who says music has no place in schools/learning? A bunch of high musicians just motivated me to study. TMBG, 1 The World, 0.
