I feel like this song is from perspectives of two different friends. On one side, one friend is struggling with a problem, be it drugs, a mental disorder, what have you. He may even be suicidal ("It's time to kill the drama, this lifestyle's getting old"), and although he knows he's dealing with some tough stuff he doesn't want to get any help because he feels like "there's no relief this world can offer". So why bother? I feel like the verse "I'll stand in time and watch you pass by..." and "What are you suffering for?..." are from the vantage point of the other friend. If you've ever had a friend struggle with something, be it a drug addiction or a mental disorder (especially if they don't want to get any help), you'll know what I mean. This friend is tired of watching their buddy go downhill, and probably even frustrated because "it's nobody's battle" but his buddy's and his friend isn't doing anything to help himself out. It's nice how the last few lines of the song deffer from the hardcore sound of the rest of the song and lighten up, almost like this friend is putting aside the frustration of watching his friend put himself through this to plead with him to "take his side" and together they'll fix whatever's wrong. As for the title "To A Friend", I think it's each person trying to explain where they're coming from. |

| It's definitely about a once good relationship gone bad (I wonder what it is you could have seen in me). It's from either point of view, be it the female or the male involved, as I think is demonstrated by the female vocals in the chorus. | |

| I've always thought that this song was about mental walls. When you've got walls, all you want to do is break them down, but you're afraid to because it's all you've ever known. You can keep whoever you want out if you've got them - no one can hurt you because you don't allow anything good or bad into your life. | |
