The one good thing about Lifehouse, is the fact that Jason Wade has always mentioned that the reason they're songs never went into too much detail, was that they wanted their audience and fans to be able to relate to each song in their own individual way. This song could perhaps relate to God for some people, for others it could relate to a sick friend or relative, or for some it could be in relation to a break up someone just had and feeling upset and sad about it. But regardless of what it means to the band, it's all in accordance as to what it really means to YOU. Take it as you want it. For me, I could think of a million things this song could relate to. All in all, it's one of their best. |

I think this song is about being unsure about a particular thing in general, doesn't have to be anything specific.. but when you reach a crossroad and you're unsure of something then this song definitely speaks from that point of view.. doesn't have to be more complicated than that. |

I honestly think this song isn't about any male or female in particular... and I definitely don't agree with it being about a pedophile who is interested in little children.. nor do I think it has anything to do with age. The whole "Father Figure" metaphor to me, seems that there is a man who is completely in love with someone.. so in love that he sees himself wanting to protect her and take care of her for the rest of her life, and save her from any of the bad out there.. hence the lines.. "So when you remember the ones who have lied, who said that they cared but then laughed as you cried..." I don't think he wants to see anyone hurting her.. he looks at her like she's a child because maybe she is in fact inexperienced when it comes to love, which is why he said he'll be her teacher, and teach her new things about love she never thought were possible.. show her how she really should be loved and appreciated like she never was.... thus the whole "Father Figure" ordeal. He wants to give her everything... be her everything... watch over her for life.... he's in love. |
