I find it really hard to believe this song isn't in someway a reference to the song "Flight 505" by da rolling stones. After all not only is the song called 505 but it also the lyrics make several references to a flight. Having the number 505 immediately conjures up thoughts of the rolling stones song, so if Turner didn't want this he could have easily changed the number. I can't imagine Turner didn't know a song called "Flight 505" was released. One interesting comparison that could be made between the two songs is that Turner talks bout going "BACK to 505" where as flight 505 is a representation of the start of a new and successful life, a new beginning. But it is ironic at the end of "Flight 505" the flight crashes into the sea surely killing the subject. Perhaps Turner is saying he is returning or wishes to return to an old love he once had (perhaps in his home town), but he can't see her anymore because he is always on the road. It could be also a claim he misses his old pre-fame life, and sometimes yearns to have it back!!!! |

Hungry and dumb, hungry and dumb (so wait in line) Queuing up for some more junk food I don't think the obesity thing fits into the theory bout these lines. It seems a bit too ironic to call fat kids hungry in my opinion, they ain't exactly underfed now are they. I think it's more a reference to globalisation and how the poorer nations (particularly in the middle east) are being squeezed out by the spread of it. All the major junk food companies are american and thus are representives of globalisation. These lines are a reference to how globalisation is feeding the developing world not what it needs (healthy food, water etc..) but what helps boost the American (and other western nations) companies' interests. The poor are queuing up for food which helps them survive, but also helps the Americans make more money. |

best oasis song by a fucking mile!!! It's talking about how people search their whole lives to be rich and famous "CHASING THE DREAM" but Oasis go against what the world tells us, and says fuck that shit, chill out, relax, have a smoke, have a pint, life can be a lot more chilled out. Typifies what Oasis are about, and what so many people in this world think. No other British band were better at communicating with the masses than oasis. |

WHAT AN AMAZING SONG!! To me this song is a critique on modern Irish sociey, and also a reflection that in many ways Mick Pyro is a lost sould in this world - he is an intellectual in a world of philistines. Pyro's lyrics are up there with the greats - dylan, young, van morrison you name them he's up there with them. But he will be forever ridiculed, because people can't see past his 50 cent charity suit, and giant white glasses. It's nothing short of a tragedy! And it truly reflects how superficial this society really is. With regards the song it reflects how drugs and alcohol have become a dominent feature of Irish society, but Pyro dosn't want these things to consume his life. He wants to be sound of mind so he can continue to nurture his lyrical genius "oh they me coming....I got high on mars with the motherfuckers". This revulsion of the people who surround him is reflected when he says "I try and tell you somethin you fuckin leave it's always the same way no one even listens to a single word I say oh". No one who knows Pyro can understand his depth of meaning so they shun him to the periphery. TRAGIC. The verse at the end is one of the most beautiful I have ever heard. Pyro at his most beautiful. How he wishes to be surrounded by people who think like him, who are as intelligent as him. But he knows that the only one that can match his intelligence and his depth of understanding of the world is Jesus. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! |
