Florence + the Machine – Girl with One Eye Lyrics 15 years ago
I know that the original version was performed by the ludes, and they may have written it with a different intesion, but when I hear Florence and the Machine's version I can't help but think the song sounds like a fight or an arguement between two women, probably over a boyfriend?

This interpretation just comes from the line 'Get your filthy fingers out of pie' - the pie being a boyfriend or a lover? This just my interpretation of course, and I can't see any other comments that agree with me so far, the general consensus is that the song is about viginity - which is probably correct! But to me the song reads like this:

The singer has a lover or at least someone she has her eye on, but has found out another girl also has an interest in them, so the singer tells her to back off. They have a confrontation:

"She told me not to step on the cracks
I told her not to fuss and relax"

The girl says not to interfere, but the singer is persistant as the girl's "pretty little face stopped me in my tracks" - the singer realises the girl really is a threat, and so the singer violently threatens the girl with one eye to the point where she can't relax.

@And now she sleeps with one eye open"

The Boys like Closer don't they? The first line is a quote from the play by Patrick Marber. I line I've always liked.
But where is this song from? Is it an old one or an unreleasd track, I can't it

Plain White T's – Hey There Delilah Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm proud to like this song. Opinions are valuble, but insults are cheap and easy. Especially when poorly constructed.

Being English, if anyone could help with this I'd be grateful: If Delilah is still in school and has two years until she graduates, how old is she? In the UK you can leave school at 16 so it confuses me. 'He loves a 14 year old?? Oh wait no...'
Having read comments and noted someone kindly reported on who the real Delilah was I understand that she was at college. So if she has two years left how old would she be then?

This song is very relaxing and comforting to a person if their missing someone like me. Thankfully I see him about one weekend a week or fortnight, and now I'm about to go to Uni we're guna move closer. The songs reminds me of when I first met my partner a year ago and loved him enough to miss him horribley. I was still in school but I only had a year to go now.

"A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way"

Kara's Flowers – Come Talk With Me Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this a beautiful song. I love the way she is complimented
You look so nice you shine just like the morning
But at nine pm you glow just like the night

The first bit is self explanitory; he loves her so much, she absolutely shines. But I think she suffers from depression, maybe, or they're having such a tough life together and seperately he's tired and she's always busy.

Possibley he's in love and doesn't know, so when he sees her depressed it upsets him so much he doesn't know how ("Why does it make me crazy when I know, you're coming down down down")

oh i thought it was
"I have tried so very hard as hell
To stay away from her upstairs"
As in the girl he fancied who lives in the room above his or something like that.

Maroon 5 – Story Lyrics 18 years ago
This is a brillian song! Shamefully no comments. Here's a link to the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDpORqCZXTQ&mode=related&search=

I love the line 'i think that you may be the one' he sings it with so much conviction I feel a little shudder.

I like to think he's assuring himself over the girls feelings for him, finally knowing that she is in love with him "Everything she ever does is for you" They've had a rocky relationship and seperately she's had a difficult past:
"wear that dress to protect the scar that only i have seen"
"do you wish you were somewhere else"
"were you burned by the things i said?"
"i will listen to your pain"

To me the lyrics read that they often fight and don't know each other as well as they need to get along clearly. In their last argument the things he said were explosive "Have you learned all the secrets yet?
Were you burned by the things I said?
Took the dive just to feel alive..."
Possibley meaning that he shouted hurtful things in the spur of the moment
"....But never heard the truth"
But never shouted the most important thing that he hates her for: he's fallen in love with her and he doesn't know how or why, and as she sleeps later on that night he has this revelation, simultaneously realising that she loves him too ("i slowly open mine")

Being confused over how, why and why he can't have her now, he figures that if their relationship can't be salvaged quickly the sometimes unavoidable will happen "The story of a broken heart [could come] true". So he invites her to talk things out so they can fix their problems ("Be near, just for a moment Stay near, never go home")
He tells her all he has come to find, and despite their arguing and their pasts, the "days have stung by too much sun", he loves her and wants them both to forget their anger, love each other and share everything.

What a beautiful story.

Did you know
That everything she ever does is for you
So it goes
That the story of a broken heart comes true
It comes true

Maroon 5 – Goodnight, Goodnight Lyrics 18 years ago
Vickie-ed what is your number 1 on the cd?

This is mostly unreleated but this song reminds me of Doctor who 2006. For those who have no idea (those who do will understand) I read this as he's thinking of his ex and is relating it to his present gf, or just thinking about her too much. But that doesn't fit very well
I like what someone's said above, that the girl he can't place is the old personality his lover, but she's changed so much with his 'bad behaviour' that's she barely recognisable.

Lastly, isn't it 'her eyes were *red* with anger'? Like she's being crying so much?

Captain – Glorious Lyrics 18 years ago
I wholley agree ell-ward, this song and band should be much MUCH bigger than it is. It's totally worth the words and the space to praise this song alone. ONE comment? It's so uplifting though, the sound truley IS glorious! It's fantastic it swoops and dives, it's like being on a melodic roller coaster! That's what i think. Bit electric, not too pop-y, very indie.

I believe this song has a similar premise to many others but captured in a new way, expressing the high emotions not through the lyrics but in the tremor and power of the instuments and melody.
Guy goes out clubbing and falls for one of the clubbers; a hip girl with an artistic fashion-sense who no one else has noticed.
The song feels to me like the eletricity of love at first sight mixed with the sensation of the City. Marvolous xxx

The Pigeon Detectives – Take Her Back Lyrics 18 years ago
wow a song about me!... if you add at least 5 years onto the bloke.

Yh this song is brilliant, a nice angle on a relationship, age differences haven't come up for a bit in the uk.
The woman who's 31, is this a suggestion that he's cheated on the 17 yr old (*why* would you do that!?*) with the 31 yr old, or is he pretending to his mates he's seeing a 31 yr old, or has someone tried to set him up with her...? I could go on.

Fall Out Boy – Thnks fr th Mmrs Lyrics 18 years ago
Hiya people.
Sorry someone may have already given this opinion, as I haven't had time to get all way through this thread, but I'm in a play at the moment and as I was walking to work this morning I heard this song (I didn't realise it was the AMAZING Fall Out Boy!). And I recognised that the songs plot borrowed heavily from the play I'm in- which became the 2004 movie - Closer. "He tastes like you only sweeter" is my line! :D It was only just now I discovered this was Fall Out Boy's song. A friend of mine recomended their new song, and after looking up the lyrics I started jumping up and down. "I've already heard it! It's the Closer song!!!"

In the second act of the play (I haven't seen the movie yet so I presume it's there too) Larry and Anna meet up to finalise their divorce after Anna cheats on him, and Larry will only sign the divorce papers if she sleeps with him one more time

One night and one more time,
Thanks for the memories,
Even though they weren't so great,
He tastes like you, but sweeter.

FOB aren't the only band to have ever Homaged the play/movie. Panic! at the Disco have two songs which are each named after half of the line 'Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off, but it's better if you do'. FOB and Panic seem to work on the same tangent (sp). It's also worth noting that in the 'Thnks Fr Th Mmrs' video I just watched the director (who just happens to be a monkey) sreeches at them "You guys are a joke! I should have gotten Panic! At The Disco!"

And yes I've just found everybody has discussed the same thing! At least it means I'm on the right track!
Thank you! xx
