Nirvana – Rape Me Lyrics 18 years ago
I just hear intense self-loathing in this song. It's like you are just so sick of yourself that you don't even care what happens to you; you almost want bad things to happen because you cannot want anything good for someone you hate.

Senses Fail – Bonecrusher Lyrics 18 years ago
"Drink up the loneliness" is pretty similar to the line in billy Joel's song "Piano Man" that says "Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness." I wonder if that was part of the inspiration for this song, with their own style of course.

House of Heroes – Make a Face Like You Mean It (Vampires) Lyrics 18 years ago
Even broader than just the music industry, this song could refer to the business world in general. Big businesses have a huge impact on society, politics, your lives and mine. They can get what they want and define truth how they choose. We're just their puppets, and our integrity and creativity doesn't mean a thing to them.

House of Heroes – Buckets for Bullet Wounds Lyrics 18 years ago
This strikes me as a political song. For example, the "cold corruption" of the dealings with China, Mexico and other foreign countries, with the other option being starvation. They are paid next to nothing for hard labor: "The poorest work the hardest for the smallest." America is the butcher, and the hard-working underpaid foreigners are the victims. There are no doctors, no one looking out for the little guy. They "open up the gates for those who push them over," by doing trade with America, expecting more jobs to be helpful. However, America just pushes them over. "The wolf that comes to many homes these days just had pups in my kitchen. I sold them, and here is the money." In this part, the wolf would be the metaphorical corrupt system, spreading into our lives and homes (having puppies). Instead of avoiding it at all costs, we use the system to our own advantage (selling them for money.) This might not be what is meant, but it fits quite well.

House of Heroes – Friday Night Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the part that begins "I like myself on the following conditions..." is just pointing out how we tend to not like ourselves because of "faults" that aren't actual faults at all. You don't have to be better than the next guy, or good-looking or any of that. Even if you were, next you'll just be chasing money and power. The point is, don't waste your time on these things because you'll never get enough of it.

Nirvana – Floyd the Barber Lyrics 18 years ago
This makes me think of children growing up, finding out that everything isn't as Mayberry-perfect as they used to think it was; how traumatic it is losing your naivety and innocence and seeing the world as it really is.

The Format – A Mess To Be Made Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm not sure if this is what is meant, but "a mess to be made" could refer to the mistakes the person has not made yet...and he obviously has made a mess of his days, and doesn't want to screw up her life like he's screwed up his. She leaves because he has trouble really connecting in the relationship when he's so afraid he'll hurt her (and thus in his dream, she's all alone with tears in her eyes), and she can't take it. So he helps her out the door, he knows he's not a good thing in her life, but when she gone he just thinks about her and wants her back. No one else really sees him as a screw-up like he sees himself, since he's doing fine financially. But he knows that his life is so much more than numbers on paper.

Sherwood – Gentleman Of Promise Lyrics 18 years ago
I can't believe Sherwood is not more commented...I love them so much. And I love how the guy in this song seems like a genuinely nice guy, (which is so very rare) not the one who thinks he's all that and treats his girl like crap.

Every Time I Die – Ebolarama Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah, it's obviously talking about meaningless relationships..Girls think they're in a "pageant," and guys like them for their talents, looks, and ideas, but really it's just an "auction" and all the guy wants is a piece of meat to take home and tear into. I think "drip-fed and bloated" is referring to all the shit the media pumps into people, where they think one-night stands and meaningless sex can turn into a good, lasting relationship. It never does, of course, since the words of the nights before are never uttered on the morning afters.

Brand New – I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't think he's saying F you to the fans as much as just saying that fame isn't as easy and glamorous as most people think it is..and relationships between him and fans isn't really interactive, so he spills his guts to them in songs, and the cast majority of them are complete strangers. It's gotta be weird..

Motion City Soundtrack – A-OK Lyrics 18 years ago
It's easier to say "I'm fine" than to admit that you're not, and have to deal with the real underlying issues in your life. So you hide behind those words, and the problems just get worse and worse, and you keep pretending everything will be OK.

Motion City Soundtrack – Indoor Living Lyrics 18 years ago
To me, this song is about feeling like a failure.
"I fell off the sidelines long ago." Maybe he was trying to walk the line between the "good life" (go to school, get a job, get married, etc.) and the "bad life" (drugs, drinking, meaningless sex, etc.) and he's saying he's fallen off the line, he couldn't lead a double life, and now he's left with the part he didn't really want.
"I have no occupation, I'm just wasted for the weekend scene." Occupation is always a huge part of identity, and I know from experience how useless I feel without a job and a purpose. He just turns to the bottle to deal with these feelings.
"Don't ask me out, don't make me try, cuz I'm just gonna let you, I'm just gonna let you down." He doesn't want to risk hurting someone in a relationship because he's failed at so much already, and he doesn't even want to take the chance.
That's how I see it, at least..

Nirvana – In Bloom Lyrics 18 years ago
This makes me think of how people think it's cool to shop at Hot Topic and listen to all the "it" music, but they don't understand what the music means, and they don't understand the artists, they're just trying to be cool and therefore aren't.

Billy Joel – My Life Lyrics 18 years ago
When I was a kid, I always thought he said "go to hell with your own life, leave me alone," and I think I'd like it a little better like that...
