Guster – Airport Song Lyrics 18 years ago
communism? I'd like to think it's something a little more contemporary, but I could be wrong.
It really reminded me of drug addiction. Finally something that one can focus on and will always be there for him/her as long as they are willing to pay the price.

Glad you made it welcome to the farm
whos your daddy I'm your daddy now
*alienation from all loved ones because eventually you choose the drug*

I'm here seeking only what I need
In your mind is where ill plant my seed
*the whole drug "industry " would not exist unless it was addictive believed the drug was the only way to cope in this world*

It's for sure
let me keep you in this place you'll be better off this way
I will keep you warm and safe you'll be better off this way

learn to love the price you pay trust me dear youre better off this way
*lying stealing prostitution... once you've committed such acts you don't think you're good enough to even get better*

put to bed the son and sister moon I'll be hiding in your dirty room
I'll go there seeking only what I need la ti da well stay there till we bleed
*it's the hiding from everyone, physically and emotionally.*

It's for sure
let me keep you in this place you'll be better off this way
I will keep you warm and safe you'll be better off this way

I will not wake you from your sleep leave you wandering counting sheep
*this person could possibly be strung out on some sort of amphetamine. no sleeping for them*

no more sad and sunshine days trust me dear youre better off this way
you'll be selling books at the airport

*you've sold your sold for relief and acceptance and now your mind is sludge and you've become a total pariah on the human race.*

*I don't view addicts in this light. I am one myself. I've been to rehab. I still feel as though it's a defective part of my character and this song really seems to express that.

I'm glad someone else mentioned the Bradbury connection. It seems unavoidable. However, that doesn't mean the that's as deep as it goes because obviously Bradbury wasn't just writing about an astronaut estranged from his family.
It's about living two lives, gay/straight, family/professional, or even addict/happy healthy person. They all fit in my opinion.

This song is amazing in every way. People who listen to top 40 love it because it's catchy while it's lyrically superior to anything on the radio.
It's also quite universal. It doesn't require interpretation because it means something different to everyone and none of it is incorrect.

Not all the drugs are listed up there. I've been on a lot of them, prescribed and otherwise.
The song is about having mental illness, but blaming it solely on a chemical imbalance, absolving the family of any responsibility.
My family's been doing it for years. Rehab was the only thing that ever made me realize that it isn't one damaged individual being a burden on everyone else. It's EVERYONE's problem and healthy human relationships have to be part of any psychological treatment.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Me and Mia Lyrics 18 years ago
I hate to admit it but this was how I discovered Ted Leo. I was bulimic for 8 years and I definitely got into the eating disorder "subculture" online. It was pathetic and sadly necessary. It's still awesome to have a song like this that is intelligent and doesn't glamorize it or belittle the disorder.
It's female adolescence these days. I can't think of any girl I knew growing up who didn't fixate on her weight because so many other areas in her life were messed up and there was no one she trusted to talk to about it.
It's not about being pretty or whatever. Anyone who believes that hasn't researched it enough. I looked and felt like crap the whole time. When people noticed I lost weight, I felt paranoid and resentful.
And most "anorexic" celebrities aren't anorexic, they're strung out on coke and other amphetamines. Girls admire skinny celebs. Maybe they'd feel a little different if they knew how they really got that way.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – The Ballad Of The Sin Eater Lyrics 18 years ago
Sierra Leone(sp?) is obviously more present in the media than it has been in the past. The atrocities committed just to keep the diamond industry manageable, are pretty freaking heartless. The price of diamonds depend on the amount in circulation all over the world so if a new vein is discovered or if those mining them aren't kept under careful control then other diamonds can make it to the market (black or otherwise) thus screwing up what jewelers want to charge.
There's no innate value in diamonds. They're used for certain medical and other scientific procedures, but other than that, they're just very durable and pretty to look at.
They're a symbol of exclusivity and social status and because there is big money to make, people end up being exploited and killed to get the product to the market. I will never ever own a diamond. Not in an engagement ring or any other jewelry. My boyfriend can ask me to marry him with something that doesn't feed into corporate/American greed, at the expense of those without guns as big as ours.
