Shinedown – Fake Lyrics 18 years ago
I wrote this analysis as a school project.

The song Fake by Shinedown is about someone who wants to be friends with someone else who doesn’t understand their situation. The first person is a big dreamer who thinks outside the box while the other is a popular pessimist who thinks dreaming is stupid, evidence of this can be seen in the line “You don’t know how it feels to be miss understood, To reach for the sky, I thought you never would”. This shows that the one character is reaching for the sky though no one understands him while the other won’t even try. There is also evidence that the dreamer is sick of waiting foe the pessimist to change, this can be seen in the line “But I’m bleeding and my hands are bruised from the grip that I once had on you and I’m open for a new way cause there’s not much that I can fake”. These line show that the dreamer is sick of being someone he’s not and feeling bad so he’s done with trying to make the other person happy. There is more evidence of the dreamer getting sick of the pessimist and telling him or herself to be honest. With himself in the lines “Its almost seeing your soul for the first time and watching the mirror show your life in rewind, capture the ridicule of everyone I’m tired of trying and they wonder why I’m gone” these lines show that the dreamer is telling the pessimist to be their self and don’t worry about what people think.
I like this song because I have been both the pessimist and the dreamer mentioned in the song. It is impossible for me to pick a favorite line from the song because I think it is a poetic masterpiece. Fake, like many of Shinedown’s songs is about being yourself and not letting the mean and fake people of the world bring you down.
