I think you nailed it!
I think he had a wonderful catharsis when he realized that he had an easy out when her 'mind of destructive taste' 'opened fire' on him. He realized he didn't have to take it any more, but simply learned his lesson, and moved on. Afterall, she 'opened fire' showing her true colors. I get the sense that he spent some time feeling bad, feeling salt in his wounds, before he came to this epiphany, plain as day. |

My guess is that this song is about insufferable tattle tails who have a dangerous, drug like addiction to digging up dirt on other people and holding it over their heads. They can't rest until they've done something to expose you. They have nothing better to do. If you read between the lines, in his own way Layne is saying "Don't you have something better to do?" |

John is Jesus's most powerful prophet that ever existed. He is cloaked in the spirit of Elijah and Elisha, and according to the Bible, has revealed one of the most thorough prophecies yet. In these lyrics, John is being depicted as a proud religious zealot that had the audacity to write the book of Revelation and stamp out every other religion's god unfairly. Judging by the tone of the song, the lyrics assume that John was operating out of his own power, and not the power which was truly ordained to him by The Lord. It sounds as if whoever wrote the lyrics caved in due to pressure from other religious gods, and was deceived that The Lord is not the only living Lord that ever existed. |

And when he says, "Has desire found a shady avenue?" He speaks of how he finds his desires unquenchable, because they fill in the void of space, but he always fails to notice when things are spiralling out of control. He seems to be acknowledging some sort of blindness. |

BT seems to be acknowledging that he feels spiritually confused, and hides his message behind a poetic veil. From what I've gathered, he says that things go from bad to worse, yet it doesn't seem like God is doing anything about it. It always feels like he's going the wrong direction, but God doesn't seem to be doing anything about it. Then he goes on to talk about doubting himself and being out shined. He seems afraid of giving up his self will to worship God, because possibly he fears that something bad will happen. |
