It's definitely got the same feel as Eyes Without a Face. I was listening to Billy Idol and happened to get Partie Traumatic on the same day.
It's a great song about someone who loves the idea of being in love. At the same time, he knows that the possibilities of a dream are easily dashed by reality. He can't continue to enjoy making eyes at the beautiful woman across the room if he goes over and talks to her and discovers she is not the person he built her up to be in his head. |

At first I thought it was the girl in love with her best friend. After listening a few more times I began to wonder if perhaps the song is being sung from the perspective of a young woman who wants her friend's boyfriend. In this scenario he opening line of the song is a statement of aspiration, what the girl wants to be like. |

The Helen of Troy reference is fantastic, as is the twist about sinking it. I love the contrast between the passivity and shallowness of the beauty launching 1,000 ships and the determination to destroy a behemoth.
I've agree that the song is about constantly living in danger.
The song and the album are great. There are some serious gospel and blues influences running through the new album. While that might annoy the RK faithful, it's mostly because they don't realize that much of what they did before was influenced by people who can trace the lineage of their influences back to blues, gospel, and old time soul. |

Amen and hallelujah to tjwells. I like myself some good indie, but I also love myself some well made pop.
I couldn't agree more with the meaning of the song that others have proposed. It reminds me an awful lot of how I spent a few years of my life. |

My less literal reading of this song is that it's more about trying to get the attention of someone who got the singer's attention. It's a story of unrequited desire.
"If I was the storm, if I was the wonder would I have...." She is essentially asking if she could be the kind of person to catch his eye the way he caught hers. |

It's quite clever how they have made two songs with the same structure. One where he wakes up and she's gone, one where she's there. Either way he's not surprised. |
