I can't believe there is an arguement over what this song is about. Know-it-alls would like to believe that everything they read is true, totally disregarding the fact that maybe things were written in the booklet to mislead certain people intentionally? This is a love song for cannabis. Straight up. That and the one time I saw Black Sabbath live where ozzy didn't bail out there was a gigathemntic clock that came up on the screen behind that read "4:19" and right before they started 'sweet leaf', when it started it flipped to "4:20". That and fog machines. The messed up part is that this sounds like one of the deepest love songs in metal. It's so sweet lol. |

He has been wronged by somebody he trusted and was very close to him. It seems like he has dropped this person or people from his life AND vocabulary, and while he feels very strong negative feelings, he has the courage to stay silent and let it be and move on with his own life while the other party's involved fuck up their own. The exception would have to be the line 'scratch a liar, find a thief' I feel like the meaning of this song is loosely linked to the lyrical meaning of the song 'Walk' by Pantera. I figured this song out after recently a girl i have been close to[previously dated for years as well] went from being the closest person to me to dating one of my best friends and dropping me.... "scratch a liar, find a theif..." "Does the end justify the means? In all honesty, how do you sleep?" It's only going to go downhill for them fast, they have both betrayed me and as soon as their done with eachother, they'll expect me to be cool with them. My attempt at interpreting this: "Day after day, love turns grey Like the skin of a dying man Night after night, we pretend it's all right But I have grown older and You have grown colder and Nothing is very much fun any more." Pink enters his hotel room with a groupie. He's with the groupie only because, as revealed in the previous songs, Pink realized his wife is cheating on him. Pink is no stranger to the groupie thing, and there he is with a groupie in his hotel room. It's old to him. Maybe he feels like he's mentally too old for it at this point. These lines also represent pink's fading marriage. Like "You have grown colder " Pink is no good for his wife and he's only hurting her and she is realizing this and beginning to move on with her life- without Pink and the emotional abuse he causes her to suffer. "And I can feel one of my turns coming on. I feel cold as razor blade Tight as a tourniquet Dry as a funeral drum," Uh oh.... Pink knows whats about to happen and he can't stop it. "Run to the bedroom, in the suitcase on the left You'll find my favorite axe Don't look so frightened This is just a passing phase Just one of my bad days Would you like call the cops? Do you think it's time I stopped?" Pink is flipping out at this point. In the movie, he kicks and breaks the TV screen, trashes the whole hotel room, throws a tv out the window, throws stuff at the groupie, chasing her away. In the lines "Don't look so frightened, This is just a passing phase, Just one of my bad days" Pink is attempting to explain his actions, although this is while he's acting. He's scaring the shit out of the groupie. Pink's 'turn' is the last thing she expected to witness tonight. She just wants to "get between the sheets" with Pink. "Would you like to watch T. V.? Or get between the sheets? Or contemplate the silent freeway? Would you like something to eat? Would you like to learn to fly? Would you like to see me try? Would you like call the cops? Do you think it's time I stopped?" ...sarcasm aimed at the groupie while he's flipping out and trashing the place. "Why are you running away?" Pink is, well, pretty crazy at this point in the album[/movie]. Maybe he really doesn't understand why the groupie is running away even though he obviously chased her away. This last line also has a direct meaning to Pink's marriage. Same concept though. It's obvious why pink's wife would want to leave him. He has nothing to offer her emotionally, and he may even be physically abusive. Pink's wife is definitely suffering emotional abuse from Pink. Pink might not even realize what he's doing to his wife and may not understand. HE'S FUCKING CRAZY. |

I don't think that it has anything to do with physical abuse, I think it's all emotional abuse. Pink has problems expressing emotion. No matter how hard his wife tried to get some love and attention out of him, it's like she's just talking to a WALL. I could be wrong, maybe there was physical abuse, but the meaning would be just the same if it is actually only about emotional abuse. |
